<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Tv ]]> https://www.gamesradar.com 2025-04-01T21:14:42Z en <![CDATA[ Despite mixed reviews, the Dexter prequel series has been renewed for season 2 ]]> Dexter: Original Sin, the prequel series to Showtime's hit horror-drama, has been renewed for a second season.

Per Deadline, a season 2 writers' room is set to start up soon, with filming set to begin later this year or early 2026.

Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter Morgan (Paddy Gibson) as he transitions from student to vigilante serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, his adoptive father Harry (Christian Slater) helps him channel his inner darkness. If you've seen the original Showtime series, Harry helps him design a 'special code' to help him find and kill murderers, traffickers, and other various types of terrible people without getting caught. However, this becomes a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department - which makes him better at his secret vigilante gig in the long run.

The series received mostly mixed reviews from critics and fans alike, sitting at a 68% critics score and a 76% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes (which isn't too bad considering how prequels tend to fare). The show premiered to 2.1 million viewers, setting a record for Showtime.

Christian Slater, Christina Milian, Molly Brown, Jasper Lewis, Patrick Dempsey, and Sarah Michelle Gellar also star. Original Sin was conceived by Clyde Phillips, who served as showrunner on season 1 of the flagship series as well as the revival series Dexter: New Blood. And yes, another Dexter offshoot is on the way.

Dexter: Original Sin is streaming now on Paramount Plus. For more, check out our list of the best new TV shows coming your way in 2025 and beyond.

<![CDATA[ Severance star joins Harlan Coben's new Netflix show following the success of Fool Me Once and Missing You ]]> As we wait to see what's next for her character on Apple TV Plus' hit show Severance, Britt Lower has joined the cast for a new Harlan Coben adaptation on Netflix, I Will Find You. Avatar star Sam Worthington was previously announced as the lead.

The main cast of the upcoming show also includes This is Us star Milo Ventimiglia, Logan Browning, and Gotham's Erin Richards, as announced by the streamer this week.

Based on Coben's novel of the same name, published in 2023, the story follows an innocent father, David (Worthington), serving life in prison for the murder of his own son. When he receives evidence that his child may still be alive, he decides to break out of prison to find out the truth.

Lower will play Rachel Mills, David’s ex-sister-in-law and former decorated reporter who views this story as her opportunity to restore her journalistic career.

Coben's overall deal with Netflix is consistently delivering binge-watchable thriller shows on streaming, with titles like Missing You and particularly Fool Me Once proving incredibly successful with viewers. Fool Me Once, released in January 2024, seats now at number eight on the streamer's top 10 most-watched English language series of all time.

There are other adaptations on the way, with the next one set to be Run Away, based on the 2019 book of the same name. It was also revealed that Harlan Coben's new novel, Nobody's Fool, is actually a sequel to the hit Netflix adaptation of Fool Me Once, so you can run to the stores now if you want to know what happens next.

In the meantime, another adaptation of an earlier Harlan Coben novel, Just One Look, was quietly added to Netflix last month, and it was described as an "edge-of-your-seat" thriller.

<![CDATA[ Homelander star says The Boys season 5 finale will "surprise or shock" fans, "depending on their nervous system" ]]> The Boys star Antony Starr has teased what to expect from The Boys season 5 after seeing the scripts for the first time – and it seems like we're not ready for the series finale.

"The scripts, I've gotta say, in typical Boys fashion, I did not see… I never see it coming with this show," Starr said in a recent interview with Collider.

"Every time I think I know what's gonna happen, something else happens, so this was no exception, these last scripts. I'm six deep, I haven't seen the penultimate and finale yet, but I know what happens and I think fans are gonna be either surprised or shocked, depending on their nervous system. But very, very entertained."

He added, "It's strange because as much as I love the show, I don't like seeing things outstay their welcome, so I'm kind of glad we're finishing at [season] 5, that's it. I love the show and the characters, so it's a bittersweet moment."

Showrunner Eric Kripke recently revealed that the show's final season is "halfway through shooting". As cameras started rolling back in November, that means we can expect the series to wrap in the next couple of months.

Alongside returning actors like Starr, Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, and Jensen Ackles, season 5 will also see Ackles' Supernatural co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins join the cast.

The Boys season 5 is set to arrive sometime in 2026. While we wait, check out our guide to the other best shows on Amazon Prime Video to add to your watchlist.

<![CDATA[ Solo Leveling's Jinwoo English dub actor says he wrote part of the anime show's most heartbreaking scene and it made him "start bawling" ]]> Sung Jinwoo's English dub voice actor Aleks Le has revealed that he was pretty involved in creating one of Solo Leveling's most heartbreaking scenes to date. He posted a video about the reunion scene, which came in season 2 episode 9, 'It Was All Worth It', and saw Jinwoo face his mom Park Kyung-Hye once again. The poignant moment sees her wake up after four years in a coma, as she tells him how proud she is of him and Jinwoo starts crying.

"So there's a similar dynamic in this scene that I really like from Aunt May and Peter that I really like in The Amazing Spider-Man movie," Le revealed before sharing that he asked the show's writer Jessica Sluys if he could write the dialogue between Jinwoo and his mom in the English dub.

"It's a moment that hits really close to home to me, and I had a lot of ideas and I knew what words were going to emotionally kill me and destroy me inside," he revealed. "So I had the honor of writing the dialogue for this scene, and of course everything is going to be accurate and within the translation of the Japanese and Korean text, but it also had a lot of little touches that I wanted to put in there."

Le gave some examples of what he changed, including his mom calling him "sweet boy" and "baby" as well as bringing in some of his personal experience to the words of affirmation that she gives him. "When I heard Colleen's [Clinkenbeard, Park Kyung-Hye's English voice actor] voice in that scene saying those words for the very first time, I genuinely started bawling and breaking down in tears," Le added.

Solo Leveling season 2 has now come to an end, but there's a whole bunch of new anime still on the way this year. For more, you can also check out our guides to the best anime and the best anime on Netflix.

<![CDATA[ The Last of Us showrunner says "flat out" that "I am not going to go past the game" like Game of Thrones did with George R.R. Martin's novels ]]> The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin says he and co-showrunner Neil Druckmann have no plans to pull a Game of Thrones and break the show off into directions that aren't included in the source work.

"I am not going to go past the game. I’ll just say that flat out. So if people are thinking, 'Oh, these guys are planning the old cash grab thing,'" Mazin told The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm basically setting a decade of my rapidly dwindling life on fire to tell this story. The show is so hard to make. It has to have an end. So I’m not going to go past."

The Last of Us is based on the video game franchise of the same name, with season 2 (and a potential 3 and 4) adapting the second game. Both games tell two very succinct and connected stories - with no existing prequels or spin-off games. It looks like there won't be a Last of Us Part 3 game released anytime soon, either - and Mazin and Druckmann have no plans to take that potential story and adapt it for TV.

"Who knows, there might be a Dunk and Egg The Last of Us show that happens that somebody does. But for me, the only question is: Is it going to be one more season or will it require two more? If this can happen all in one more season, great. If we feel like it makes sense to break it into two, then we will do that."

The Last of Us season 2 is set to hit HBO and Max on April 13. In the UK, it'll be available on Sky Atlantic and NOW. For more, check out our list of the best Max shows and the best Max movies to stream right now.

<![CDATA[ New Black Mirror season 7 trailer reveals how Will Poulter's Bandersnatch character returns to the Netflix show - with a Sonic the Hedgehog namedrop ]]> A new trailer for Black Mirror has arrived - and we're ready for more existential dread.

The new trailer, which can be viewed below, teases not one, but two sequels: Plaything, a follow-up episode to Bandersnatch, the interactive movie that hit Netflix in 2018, and USS Callister: Into Infinity, a part-two to the acclaimed episode USS Callister. We see Will Poulter return as Colin Ritman, who, while a video game pops up on a computer screen, warns, "These are living individuals. They're not obscene puppets like Sonic the Hedgehog." We also see Cristin Milioti back on the spaceship in that familiar uniform, as well as Jimmi Simpson and Billy Magnussen - who joined Milioti in the flagship episode.

Bandersnatch saw a young programmer attempt to turn a fantasy gamebook into a video game in the year 1984, with viewers being able to use their laptops and TV remotes to make decisions for the main character. It took home the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Television Movie.

USS Callister premiered back in 2017 as part of season 4 and saw a gifted programmer named Robert Daly (Jesse Plemons) who, unhappy with the lack of recognition from his coworkers, decides to simulate a Star Trek-like space adventure. The episode earned four Primetime Emmy Awards including Outstanding Television Movie, with William Bridges and Charlie Brooker taking home the Emmy for Outstanding Writing.

A plethora of other episodes are also teased, including, Common People, Hotel Reverie, Eulogy, Bete Noire, and Eulogy. The season 7 cast includes Paul Giamatti, Emma Corrin, Issa Rae, Awkafina, Rashida Jones, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Peter Capaldi.

Black Mirror season 7 hits Netflix on April 10. For more, check out our list of the best Netflix shows and the best Netflix movies to stream right now.

<![CDATA[ House of the Dragon will introduce one of the most "truly memorable Game of Thrones characters" in season 3: "He's one of those true fan favorites" ]]> House of the Dragon season 3 has added two new cast members to its line-up, and one of them is a "fan-favorite" Game of Thrones character. The new season, which has now started filming, is bringing Ser Roderick Dustin and Ser Torrhen Manderly to the screen.

The former will be played by Tommy Flanagan, who is best known for starring as Cicero in Gladiator and Morrison in Braveheart. In George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood, Ser Roderick Dustin – also nicknamed Roddy the Ruin – is a seasoned warrior who commands a large army of Northmen known as the Winter Wolves.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about bringing him to the screen, showrunner Ryan Condal said: "I don't want to say much because I think this is one of those truly memorable Game of Thrones characters, and I'm very excited to bring him into the fold. But he is a fixture in Fire & Blood, and I think he's one of those true fan favorites. I'm very, very proud of the role that we've written."

Meanwhile, Manderly will be played by Fantastic Beasts star Dan Fogler. Another Northerner, the knight hails from House Manderly and is described by Martin as clever and well spoken.

Max also shared a video to mark filming beginning on the new season. Check this out below.

The duo join a whole host of new cast members in season 3, including James Norton as Ormund Hightower. The new season will begin with a brutal battle that was teased at the tail end of season 2. No release date has been confirmed yet.

<![CDATA[ Devil May Cry producer hopes new Netflix anime inspired by Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy will show fans that "the villain of your story is the hero of their own story" ]]> Devil May Cry producer Adi Shankar has shared his hopes for the new Netflix anime and what viewers might get out of it, whether they're long-time fans or newcomers to the franchise.

"The same thing for both – unity, harmony," Shankar tells GamesRadar+ in a new interview.

"You know, it’s really just an understanding that we are, as adults, attempting to reclaim what it is that we lost as children. And realize that we’re all doing that. All whatever billion of us on the planet – we’re all doing that, we’re all attempting to regain what we lost as children, and some of us are more conscious of it than others," he continues.

"But this is something that should bring us together as a species. Like, we’re all going through this same thing. It’s just, you know, treat each other with kindness. Because the villain of your story is the hero of their own story."

Based on the video game franchise of the same name, Devil May Cry follows Dante (voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch), a demon hunter for hire, who's up against the powerful White Rabbit and his attempt to invade Earth. The first Devil May Cry game was released back in 2001, and multiple sequels have followed since. The anime's voice cast includes a posthumous appearance from Kevin Conroy.

And Conroy isn't the show's only link to the Dark Knight, either. "[The show] was inspired by Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, because it's Batman – it's the Batman you know, [Nolan] didn't, like, make any wild changes or anything," Shankar told GamesRadar+. "But he's setting it in the real world, right? It's not in this, like, Tim Burton world. It's not in this Joel Schumacher world. It's not in a cartoon world. It's in the real world."

Devil May Cry arrives on Netflix on April 3. In the meantime, fill out your watchlist with our picks of the best Netflix shows streaming now, or the other best new anime still to come in 2025.

<![CDATA[ Lazarus review: "Unfortunately Cowboy Bebop director's new sci-fi anime never quite melds into a harmonious whole" ]]> With only 30 days left to save all of humanity after a miracle drug turns into a nightmare, sci-fi anime Lazarus follows a team of bad apples as they hunt for a vaccine in the year 2055. There's action, intrigue, comedy, and – as expected – some incredible music. That's no shock given Lazarus is the latest project from the legendary Shinichirō Watanabe, best known for directing Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. But despite being filled with ambitious ingredients, it unfortunately never quite melds into a harmonious whole.

Fast facts

Release date: April 5, 2025
Available on: Adult Swim, followed by Max
Showrunner: Shinichirō Watanabe
Episodes: 13 (5 seen for review)

The basic premise is that an incredible drug called Hapna was introduced three years ago by "lauded neuroscientist" Dr. Skinner – a wildly effective painkiller with no known side effects that became widely adopted worldwide and used for all sorts of applications. Dr. Skinner then disappeared, only to resurface years later to say: there's a secondary effect where it mutates three years after use, and it's fatal. Even just one dose is enough to trigger it. Cue the entire world, including but not limited to our protagonists, trying to develop a vaccine, find Skinner and get one from him, or both.

While it takes a moment to set this status quo, the vast majority of Lazarus is spent with the team investigating potential leads in various parts of the world from homeless encampments to massive parties to major corporations in order to track down the missing doctor or anyone that might lead them to him. This narrative conceit allows the animators to show off a number of vibrant locales while also teaming up narratively interesting pairings for more character-oriented scenes, both of which work well overall.

Fight the power

Lazarus anime show

A major marketing beat for Lazarus has for some time been that John Wick director Chad Stahelski designed action sequences for the anime. What, exactly, that means in terms of hands-on work is unclear, but Stahelski is credited as "Action Supervisor" and a number of action setpieces are absolutely distinct. If you're aware of Stahelski's previous work, you can certainly see the pedigree even if it's been interpreted through the skilled hands of animators from MAPPA.

The John Wick franchise is known for nothing if not its action, and bringing that sensibility to a project helmed by Watanabe, who has his own fair share of experience directing stunning action, seems like a no-brainer win. On paper, anyway. But the execution often leaves something to be desired.

Maybe John Wick-style action simply doesn't translate well to animation. There's something raw and real about the way Keanu Reeves handles himself and all of his enemies in the franchise. It's a grounded-yet-stylized ballet of fists, blood, and bullets. Trying to duplicate that effort into animated action in Lazarus clearly seems to have been the goal, and the vision is absolutely apparent, but it regularly comes across as messy, brief, and generally lacking clarity. And the scenes where it does actually come together, while nice in their own right, make the others look worse by comparison.

It's unfair to directly compare Lazarus with Watanabe's previous projects, given the explicit differences in animation studios, talent involved, and so on. And yet, it's impossible not to; there's nothing I've seen yet in the series that even comes close to, just to name one example, the hallway broom fight scene from Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, despite it being two decades old.

Reach for the sky

Lazarus anime show

The underlying issue with Lazarus's action – technically accurate and novel, but clumsy in effect – is fairly representative of the other problems the series has. We've not yet reached a point where CGI looks totally natural when used in tandem with traditional animation, and so it's often distracting or uncanny rather than additive. As another example, the English dub is frequently stilted and dull despite the experienced cast, though I can't speak to the Japanese version.

Maybe John Wick-style action simply doesn't translate well to animation.

But when it does work, it all feels a bit effortless. There's a small segment ahead of every episode I've seen where characters provide some emotional voiceover about their prior experience with the fictional drug Hapna. It's brief, no frills, and the animation and music seems to be reused for each sequence. It's not flashy, and there's no extended parkour sequence, but it both stands out and resonates.

What I've seen of Lazarus so far isn't great. It's fine – good, even. But it's ambitious as hell, featuring a killer soundtrack and creatives working on it with major bona fides that have earned the benefit of the doubt in my book. Of those I've seen, there's at least one episode where all of it comes together to be more than the sum of its parts, and there's every possibility that this happens more often than not in the second half of the season. I certainly hope so.

Lazarus is set to premiere on April 5, 2025, on Adult Swim in English. New episodes will then debut in English every Thursday starting April 10, 2025. Those English episodes will debut on Max the day after airing while Japanese-language episodes with English subtitles will debut 30 days after premiere on Max.

<![CDATA[ Devil May Cry producer says he wanted the new Netflix anime to feel "like a Hollywood blockbuster" inspired by The Matrix and Christopher Nolan's Batman ]]> Netflix's new Devil May Cry anime adaptation was inspired by some of the most iconic Hollywood blockbusters of the early noughties, according to showrunner Adi Shankar.

In an exclusive interview with GamesRadar+ ahead of the release of the show, Shankar mentioned The Matrix and Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy among some of his biggest references while creating this new title in the beloved franchise.

"What I wanted to do with this was three things. First of all, the original anime was very much like a monster of the week-style format, until you got to the last three episodes – then it was an arc. But this one, I wanted it to feel like a giant movie, like a Hollywood blockbuster from between 1999 and 2004. References being The Matrix, Underworld, Bad Boys, Equilibrium – I could go on, and on, and on. But I wanted it to feel like a Hollywood blockbuster, and, really, I wanted the audience to experience Devil May Cry in that mold," he told GamesRadar+.

Shankar said he made the decision to set the story "in the real world" in order to approach it "with psychological realism". In this sense, another big pop culture reference came to mind.

"It was inspired by Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, because it's Batman – it's the Batman you know, [Nolan] didn't, like, make any wild changes or anything. But he's setting it in the real world, right? It's not in this, like, Tim Burton world. It's not in this Joel Schumacher world. It's not in a cartoon world. It's in the real world," the showrunner explained.

"The reason for that [decision to set Devil May Cry in New York City], actually, is the DMC franchise, at its core, is – the characters are all rooted in tragedy, their backstories are. So, I think moving into the real world allowed that tragedy to become even more relatable and even more grounded in reality, and grounded in psychological realism," he added.

The synopsis for the eight-episode show reads, "Sinister forces are at play at the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon hunter for hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck."

<![CDATA[ The Boys showrunner offers big update on season 5 while teasing "brilliant scripts" for Soldier Boy spin-off ]]> The Boys season 5 just got a big update from showrunner Eric Kripke, who also teased the upcoming Soldier Boy spin-off Vought Rising.

We got a first look at The Boys' final season back in December, which means filming has been under way for over three months now. When a fan asked for a filming update, Kripke revealed on X that season 5 is "halfway through shooting" now. This could mean that the show could wrap up filming at some point in June.

The showrunner also shared some information about the upcoming prequel Vought Rising, which stars Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash as Stormfront. "#VoughtRising writers room writing brilliant scripts & new super suits being designed. It's all happening," he wrote.

With Gen V season 2 currently filming and other projects like The Boys: Mexico still on the table, it's clear that Kripke and his team are hard at work to expand the superhero franchise. However, while fans are surely eager to sink their teeth into these new titles, The Boys is still the main attraction in the franchise.

Most details about season 5 are still under wraps, including release date and official synopsis, but we know the final season will feature one last epic battle between rivals Homelander (Antony Starr) and Billy Butcher (Karl Urban). The story will pick up after The Boys' season 4 finale, which saw The Boys being separated and captured by Supes, with only Starlight managing to escape, and Homelander taking control of the US office.

Jack Quaid (Hughie), Erin Moriarty (Starlight/Annie), Laz Alonso (MM), Colby Minifie (Ashley), Chace Crawford (The Deep), Tomer Capone (Frenchie), Nathan Mitchell (Black Noir), Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko), Valorie Curry (Firecracker), and Susan Heyward (Sage) are all returning for season 5 too, as well as Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy.

The final season is expected to hit Prime Video sometime in 2026. In the meantime, check out our list of the best Prime Video shows, or keep up with upcoming shows.

<![CDATA[ Iron First actor wants to return to Marvel and "prove people wrong": "Give me a f***ing chance, man" ]]> Iron Fist star Finn Jones wants another chance to bring his Marvel character to life after his poorly received Netflix show, and he thinks he can prove viewers wrong.

"I'm very aware of the critiques of the character and my role in it," Rand said during an appearance at anime convention La Conve Monterrey (via ComicBookMovie.com). "My response to that is, 'Give me a fucking chance, man. I’m here and I’m ready, and I wanna prove people wrong.'"

Jones played martial arts expert Danny Rand, AKA Iron Fist, from 2017 to 2018 in Netflix's Defenders Saga. The character's solo show ran for two seasons, but it wasn't received favorably by critics, with a score of 37% on Rotten Tomatoes, and fans weren't too taken with his portrayal, either. However, Danny also showed up alongside Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage in The Defenders (and the standalone Luke Cage series), which went down more positively with audiences.

So far, the only Defender to cross over into the MCU has been Daredevil. Charlie Cox's lawyer-turned-vigilante Matt Murdock had cameos in Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk, and Echo, before taking center stage in Daredevil: Born Again. Set five years after the Netflix series, it sees his path cross with Wilson Fisk, AKA Kingpin, after he becomes mayor of New York City. While the pair have both seemingly left their former lives behind them, it doesn't look like they can put their pasts behind them forever.

New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again are released weekly on Disney Plus. Stay up to date with our Daredevil: Born Again release schedule, or check out our verdict in our Daredevil: Born Again season 1 review.

<![CDATA[ Netflix's Daredevil showrunner says they "didn't have the money" to make Matt Murdock as acrobatic as he is in Born Again ]]> Matt Murdock has donned his red suit once again in Daredevil: Born Again, sprinting across the New York City skyline. And, as one fan pointed out, he's become much more agile since joining the MCU.

"Crazy how Daredevil started becoming more agile and acrobatic/moving more like comic Daredevil ever since he got into the mcu (pls dont twist my words. I know he's canon in the mcu, but u know exactly what i mean when i say mcu)," one user tweeted, alongside a series of clips of the Man Without Fear's fights in She-Hulk and Born Again so far.

Reacting to the tweet, Steven DeKnight – who was the showrunner of season 1 of Netflix's original Daredevil show – confirmed that there was a clear reason for this. "It’s purely a financial issue," he replied. "On the Netflix show, we didn’t have the money to do this. If we had, we would have."

Daredevil ran between 2015 and 2018, starring Charlie Cox in the lead role of the gritty take on the Marvel superhero. When Disney bought the rights to the series, and the rest of the Defenders Saga, Cox's Matt Murdock was introduced into the MCU.

DeKnight went on to stress that he wasn't making a dig at Netflix or his time working on the series with his comments. "Just to be clear, in no way, shape, or form were my comments regarding Daredevil a knock against Netflix," he added in a separate tweet. "It was merely explaining that I would have used CGI to enhance the fights like in Born Again if the budget had been larger."

He also explained that he's yet to see Born Again, too, tweeting: "That’s not to say we didn’t have the money to make the show we wanted to make. It was tight, but it always is. Also it’s not a comment on Born Again. I haven’t had the chance to see it yet, but have loved the clips that I have. Looking forward to it."

<![CDATA[ Gen V creator gives exciting update on second season of The Boys spin-off ]]> After the shockingly dark turn things took in the penultimate season of The Boys (well, as dark as things can get in this world), it'll sure make a nice change of pace to head back to college in the second season of Gen V, the spin-off series that follows young supes-in-the-making. In the season 1 finale, our band of college students trying for their capes were rounded up and thrown into an unknown location, leaving Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) to check out what was left behind. An update from showrunner Eric Kripke reveals that we'll get our first at a college reunion very soon, with the second season all but done and dusted.

Taking to X and breaking the news to fans, Kripke announced, “Okay #GenV update! Eps are done editing, doing music, sound & VFX now. Finishing up the first trailer. Trailer drop & date announcement coming soon (I think this season is better than S1 & will be worth the wait)." It's certainly a bold claim to make given just how surprisingly great the spin-off was and how much slack it will be picking up between his big brother show that is close to calling curtains on its entire story. The merging of these two corners of this universe has already taken place too, thanks to two cast members from Gen V who have joined the star-spangled psychopath Homelander (Antony Starr).

At the end of The Boys season 4, Cate (Maddie Phillips) and Sam (Asa Germann) helped disassemble the titular team when they were at their weakest and could very well be riding high now that they've been called up to the big leagues by Vought's poster boy that comes with laser vision. What that could mean for the captured star pupils has yet to be known.

Cate might well have a vendetta against Jaz Sinclair’s Marie Moreau, who used her blood-manipulating powers to take Cate's hand. She's still being held captive along with London Thor and Derek Luh’s Jordan Li and Emma (Lizza Broadway). We're also left wondering how the show will address the passing of Chance Perdomo, who played Jordan on the show, who tragically died in a motorcycle accident following the release of season 1. We can all wait and wonder what's in store for Gen V season 2 when the show returns later this year.

<![CDATA[ Filming has started on the second season of beloved Hulu show Paradise, only weeks after the hit Disney Plus show ended ]]> We've barely caught our breath after the first season of the hit political thriller series Paradise, and photos revealed this week confirm that filming for season 2 has already begun. The show, which starred Sterling K. Brown as the bodyguard assigned to protect James Marsden's US president, gripped audiences from the first episode (which we will absolutely not discuss here). The second season got the green light just last month, and as creator Dan Fogelman revealed, the cameras are rolling already.

Posting a photo on X with the caption "We're baaaaaaack," confirms that things are underway following last season's jaw-dropping finale. Unfortunately, how things will follow up this season, we have absolutely no idea. This realm of uncertainty wasn't just a spot that the fans were left in, though, as even its star was unsure if he'd be back for a second season at all.

Speaking to BlackFilmandTV, Sterling K. Brown admitted that he had a feeling a second season would get the go-ahead, mainly thanks to the positive reaction it was receiving online. "You get the chance to see how people are responding to it on socials and the level of enthusiasm that folks were having for the product, and I'm like, 'okay' because you never know if lightning is gonna hit in the same place twice, you know and we kind of got a chance to do it again."

One person that was equally positive about the show's future was Fogelman, who told Deadline, "I felt confident we were going to get a Season 2, though I’ve been confident before and gotten screwed by ending on a cliffhanger that never gets an answer. So it’s a very fair question. But I never really questioned that, honestly." He's just glad he gets to carry on the story that is now open to a world of possibilities. "Yes, it would’ve been very disappointing if we had gotten canceled, and we just ended with Sterling getting on that plane. I probably would’ve had to self-publish a bit of fan fiction or something to tell people what happened." Thankfully we won't have to resort to that. While you wait for a second season, check out 10 of the best shows on Hulu now.

<![CDATA[ The Last of Us showrunner says "so much" has happened in the five-year gap since we last saw Joel and Ellie: "That's part of the mystery of the season" ]]> The Last of Us creator and showrunner Neil Druckmann teases the "mystery" of season 2 - all while praising star Bella Ramsey.

"I mean Bella is such an incredible actor that not only are they older, but they've also experienced so much trauma in season one," Druckmann tells GamesRadar+ when asked about Bella Ramsey's portrayal of a 19-year-old Ellie in season 2. "And so much things have happened in that five-year gap that that's part of the mystery of the season - what happened in those five years. When you're watching Bella perform, you could just see this maturity behind their eyes. That is, it seems very simple and it's very difficult to pull off and very few actors can pull up the way that they have."

The Last of Us season 2 takes place five years after the rather tragic events of season 2, and follows a young adult Ellie (Ramsey) as she comes into her own - though we don't know if she's aware of what Joel did in The Last of Us season 1 finale. We won't spoil it if you aren't caught up, but it was a pretty unforgivable decision - and we can only imagine the strain it would have on Joel and Ellie's relationship.

We don't know if the new season will tell us what transpired over those five years via exposition or flashback, but judging by the trailer, things seem tense and rocky for everyone.

The Last of Us season 2 is set to hit Max on Sunday, April 13. For more, check out our list of the best Max shows and the best Max movies to watch right now.

<![CDATA[ Netflix anime producer says new Devil May Cry series cast member and Batman star Kevin Conroy is posthumously "entitled to some awards here": "His contributions to the world of animation are just vast" ]]> Netflix showrunner Adi Shankar was nervous to meet the incomparable voice actor Kevin Conroy while working on his new Devil May Cry anime adaptation, and he's hardly ever nervous to meet anyone. He wasn't nervous around Brad Pitt, Shankar tells me in a recent interview, or Ryan Reynolds, but Kevin Conroy – who might as well be Batman's true identity after voicing the character for 20 years – made his palms sweat.

"With Kevin – I think it’s just different when someone is so linked to your childhood," Shankar says about working with the actor before his death in 2022. In Shankar's vivid interpretation of Devil May Cry, Conroy plays the original character VP Baines. (No spoilers, but this writer is happy to share that Conroy's performance is striking).

"It’s the same thing with [Dante actor] Johnny Young Bosch," Shankar continues, "because he was the second Black Power Ranger, and I was obsessed with Johnny as a kid."

Netflix's Devil May Cry anime certainly has a voice cast that's bursting with talent – I'm a massive Conroy fan myself, having grown up with his snarl on Batman: The Animated Series, and I was thrilled to hear the show featured another posthumous role from the unparalleled Tony Todd, the original Candyman.

Speaking about both Todd and Conroy, Shankar tells me "these are legendary actors. They’re legendary performers. And, I’m just so, so grateful that they agreed to be a part of this, that we got to have them […] in this universe of the show."

"For Kevin," Shankar continues, "posthumously, I do feel like he’s entitled to some awards here. Maybe for the show, maybe not. But, like, I mean, his contributions to the world of animation are just so vast. I would love for him to be in award conversations."

Devil May Cry TV show creator calls Kevin Conroy's posthumous role in the Netflix series an "amazingly nuanced performance" and confirms "no AI" was used.

<![CDATA[ The Last of Us showrunners say it might be stretched over four seasons as they talk taking their time with the storyline: "We have a destination in mind" ]]> Warning: Mild spoilers for The Last of Us Part 1 and The Last of Us season 1!

The Last of Us showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann say it's go big or go home when it comes to adapting The Last of Us Part 2 for the small screen.

"We are going big. I can't promise you an exact number of seasons, but I will say that sometimes people think - oh, it's funny. Some people say they rushed season 1 and now some people are saying, oh, they're just dragging out and filling," Mazin tells GamesRadar+. "You know, but we don't really do that. We did season 1 the way we thought was correct and we're doing season 2 and season 3 and perhaps the season 4 the way that we think is correct. And we don't just do what's there. "

It made perfect sense to stretch the first game over just one nine-episode season, especially given the length of the game itself. The Last of Us Part 1 takes around 15 hours of gameplay to finish the main story, but around 25 hours to hit 100% completion. The story is pretty succinct, with the player playing mainly as Joel but alternating for brief sections as Ellie and Sarah, Joel's deceased daughter. The juxtaposition between the two helps flesh out Joel's relationship with and love for Ellie (and makes us sob). Though in season 1, we only meet Sarah for one episode before her tragic death.

Continues Mazin: "We have opportunities to do more, but, it's the same thing we say to HBO, they ask us how many episodes will this season be? And we say, hang tight, we'll let you know because it's just what feels correct. Where should this end? How should the next one function? But we are taking our time as best we can."

The show should absolutely take its time with telling the story of The Last of Us Part 2, given how dense the material is. For context, The Last of Us Part 2 takes around 22-26 hours to finish the main story...but up to 42 hours to hit 100% completion. In this game, there is a five-year time jump, a slew of new characters, and the player alternates between Ellie and Abby, who is more or less the secondary protagonist/antihero of the game. A lot happens - and packing this into a single seven-episode season wouldn't be doing the story justice.

"We try not to have any outside pressure. And this is where HBO is really great 'cause HBO doesn't come to us like, okay, we need this many episodes and this many seasons and this many hours of TV. They always come to us and say, make the best choices for this story and we'll support it as much as we can," Druckmann adds.

"And for this season it happened to be seven episodes. We couldn't tell you if we get to do this again, how many, exactly how many episodes we would do next season. But we have a destination in mind. And we know some of the stops along the way that we must make to get to that destination. And then the fun part is when we develop the season, is finding those diversions and those opportunities to really expand upon those stops."

The Last of Us season 2 is set to hit Max on Sunday, April 13. For more, check out our list of the best Max shows and the best Max movies to watch right now.

<![CDATA[ The Last of Us showrunner explains why they included the cut therapy scene that Pedro Pascal loved in season 2, and says it gets to the "heart" of the show ]]> The Last of Us season 2 showrunner Craig Mazin says he and Neil Druckmann are happy they got to include that formerly scrapped therapy scene – which gets to the true "heart" of the show.

"It was something that we had talked about for season 1 because I kept thinking, who has utility in the apocalypse? Obviously tough guys like Joel do, smugglers, doctors, you would imagine, would be very important," Mazin tells GamesRadar+. "And then I was like… wouldn't everyone need a therapist? If you've made it through, you have lost family members, you've watched the world fall apart, you are under terrible stress. There are monsters. Yeah, therapy would be an incredibly valuable thing."

Mazin told Variety earlier this month that they had planned to include a scene in season 1 where Joel has a therapy session – and that Pedro Pascal loved the scene so much it's part of what made him sign on to the role. The scene was ultimately scrapped, but luckily was rewritten and reworked for season 2.

"And if you are a therapist, that's a great thing to barter, but there's also a chance for us to watch Joel talk about himself in a way that he rarely does, but also to lie. The interesting thing about therapy is not everybody walks in there and tells the truth. I think therapists know that better than anyone. So what does he choose to say? What, how does he define his problem?"

After the events of The Last of Us season 1, Joel has quite a bit to talk about. We won't include finale spoilers if you aren't caught up yet, but we will say that Joel makes a decision on Ellie's behalf without her consent that more or less takes away her autonomy – though he did it out of love. We imagine this event in particular will be what he talks about when he sits down with Gail (Catherine O'Hara)... but we also imagine that Joel, who doesn't exactly love to open up and talk about his feelings, might not be entirely truthful.

Continues Mazin, "Is that really his problem? Is there something he can't talk about or won't talk about? And from there, we also found this interesting complication with his own relationship with Gail.

"And the scene, I think is pretty beautiful. It kind of gets to the heart of what's going on and serves a similar purpose to a scene in the game between Joel and Tommy, but has a different kind of spin and, I would say conflict involved in it. So we were just thrilled that we finally got it in, let's put it that way."

<![CDATA[ Hit animated show from Scavengers Reign co-creator is renewed for second season ahead of finale ]]> One of the best new TV shows of 2025 is coming back. Common Side Effects season 2 has been confirmed by Adult Swim, right as the finale comes to our screens.

The series, about two friends who find a special mushroom with incredible healing properties, has garnered considerable praise for its biting satire of the healthcare system and esoteric humor. Since premiering in February 2025, people have been drawn to the stylized animation and quirky sensibilities, leading to a renewal just nine episodes in.

"The opportunity to push the boundaries of animation and storytelling on Adult Swim is like a wonderful mushroom dream," co-creators Joseph Bennett and Steve Hely said in a press release. "Our goal with the show is to transform planet Earth and restore the human spirit. For now, we will settle for a second season."

Both longtime televisual creatives, Hely and Bennett brought considerable talent to the table. Hely served as producer on Veep, The Office, and 30 Rock, whereas you might have heard Bennett’s name in association with Scavengers Reign in 2023, a sci-fi drama he co-created.

Now, it seems like they've another hit on their hands, and one their bosses seem just as keen to continue. "You all did your job by showing up on Adult Swim and Max to support the show and lighting up your socials to spread the word. So, see? We CAN have nice things," Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim, stated.

Much of the first season concerns the pair of protagonists, Marshall and Frances, contending with the medical industry in their attempts to freely distribute the mythical fungus they uncover. While no details about the second season's story are available, we imagine it'll follow the same trajectory.

<![CDATA[ Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot will reportedly have a main character who's "more Willow," with Sarah Michelle Gellar as a guest star ]]> The return of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is gathering momentum. A new report states casting is underway for the next Slayer and her companions, and that she'll be a little different from Sarah Michelle Gellar's take on the vampire hunter.

TVLine has some details on how the Buffy continuation is coming together. According to the outlet, the protagonist is a "cerebral 16-year-old" currently named Nova, who's quite smart and something of a loner.

She’ll have two close friends, the 'Scoobies' of this installment: Hugo, who's very nerdy and comes from a rich family, and Gracie, an "acolyte" of Buffy's and an expert on all things vampiric. Nova is described as "more Willow than Buffy".

In the original show, Willow is an academically-driven introvert played by Alyson Hannigan who develops an interest in magic over the course of the series. She provides something of a foil to Buffy's extroversion, and going in that direction creates some inherent contrast for the direction of the sequel.

It's stated casting is happening right now for all three characters. Eternals and Nomadland director Chloé Zhao is attached to direct the Buffy return for Hulu. Nora Zuckerman and Lilla Zuckerman serve as writers and showrunners.

Gellar, the face of the franchise, is coming back, but it's believed she'll be more of a recurring character in front of the camera than a focal point. She announced her participation in the new Buffy show in February, writing: "I promise you, we will only make this show if we know we can do it right. And I will tell you that we are on the path there."

We'll have to wait and see what devilish goings on emerge. Check out our rundown of all the new TV shows on the way to see what other treats are coming to the small screen.

<![CDATA[ 25 years later, Bryan Cranston teases a "different dynamic" in Malcolm in the Middle revival, and says he's been trying to make it happen for over a decade ]]> Bryan Cranston has teased a "different dynamic" in the upcoming Malcolm in the Middle revival, and that he's been trying to get it off the ground for more than a decade.

"I’ve been trying to get this going for 12 years. I was the one poking the bear, going, 'Let’s do it, let’s do it, let’s do it,'" Cranston told Variety on the red carpet for his new show The Studio. "Finally, Linwood Boomer, our creator of the show, got tired of me poking him. He came up with some really fun, terrific ideas."

The revival, which will comprise four new 30-minute episodes, was first announced in December 2024. The new limited series will air on Disney Plus and follow Malcolm and his daughter, whose attendance is demanded at Hal and Lois' 40th wedding anniversary party. The revival doesn't have a release date yet, but filming is due to start very soon.

Cranston continued, "You are reintroduced to this family. We left the airwaves 20 years ago. All the boys are adults with their own children,” he said. “It’s a different dynamic in that sense – and yet, do things really change with Hal and Lois? I don’t know that they do!"

Along with Cranston returning as Hal, Jane Kaczmarek is reprising her role as his wife Lois, and Frankie Muniz is back as Malcolm, with Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield returning as his brothers Francis and Reese. Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will replace Erik Per Sullivan as Dewey.

Cranston is also set to appear as a guest star on The Studio, a new Apple TV Plus comedy series that follows the newly appointed boss of a struggling movie studio, played by Seth Rogen. The cast also includes Catherine O'Hara and Kathryn Hahn, with other guest appearances from the likes of Paul Dano, Ron Howard, and Steve Buscemi.

The Studio is airing weekly on Apple TV Plus. For more, check out our guide to the other best new TV shows still to come in 2025.

<![CDATA[ Neil Druckmann says he's letting HBO worry about "what to spoil or not" ahead of The Last of Us season 2 after Part 2's leaks: "[It] all blew up in my face" ]]> Neil Druckmann has explained why he's "learned not to put so much stock" in trying not to spoil things ahead of The Last of Us season 2.

In a new interview with GameSpot, the games' co-director said he realized how futile it is to go to great lengths to keep things secret from audiences after The Last of Us Part II fell victim to major leaks back in 2020.

"When it comes to like, what are we going to spoil or not spoil? You know, I fought tooth-and-nail when we made the game, and that all blew up in my face at the end, when we had those leaks that happened like months before the game came out," Druckmann recalled. "So I've learned to not put so much stock in that.

"Also, now I have a creative partner, HBO. I kind of follow their lead here as far as spoilers and what we should show and not show and just, you know, again, approach it as if we're doing it for the first time, assuming the audience doesn't know anything. They're not Googling what happened in the game or not."

Starring Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal, The Last of Us season 2 picks up five years after Joel "rescued" Ellie from the Fireflies' hospital base. Soon, the pair's path crosses with that of Abby's (Kaitlyn Dever), setting them all on a revenge-filled collision course that threatens their relationships and their lives. Other fresh faces being welcomed in the new chapter include Young Mazino (as Jesse), Danny Ramirez (as Manny), Isabela Merced (as Dina), and Catherine O'Hara (as original character Gail).

"I feel like the best way I could respect the audience is by not thinking about them too much when I'm working on whatever I'm writing," Druckmann continued. "That way I could just make the best decision with as little outside influence as possible, and make the best internal decisions for the characters, for the story, for the medium."

The Last of Us season 2 premieres on HBO and Max in the US on April 13, before landing on Sky and NOW in the UK the following day. For further watchlist inspiration, check out our guide to the best shows on Max.

<![CDATA[ Reacher star Alan Ritchson says he was knocked out cold during that explosive season 3 finale fight with a 7ft 2in Dutch bodybuilder ]]> The final episode of Reacher season 3 gave fans exactly what they had been waiting for. But the fight scene was just as brutal to film as it looked on screen, as star Alan Ritchson (Reacher) says he got knocked out cold during the ordeal.

Warning, the following article contains major spoilers for the Reacher season 3 ending, so make sure you are all caught up on the third instalment before reading on.

Reacher season 3 episode 8 saw Reacher finally face up to Beck’s 7 ft 2in bodyguard Paulie, and the two entered into a huge fight that took place in a barn, a toolshed, and even the ocean – you can read more about that in our Reacher season 3 ending explained. However, filming the fight scene left Ritchson just as bruised and injured as we see him in the series.

"I got picked up and we worked out the camera thing a few times and he slammed me through the table so hard, I went through it into the seventh circle of hell," Ritchson said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "And I woke up a day and a half later. When I came to, I had to tell my kids that I felt great, because they were on set, and I didn't want them to think that like, dad died and was going to not be okay. It was the worst few minutes of my life."

Despite his injuries, Ritchson did not want to use a stuntman at any point during filming the fight scene, which took 3 weeks to complete. "Everybody was like, 'You're going to get killed and we're not going to do that because it's going to hurt you too bad. And so we're going to do it with a stuntman.' And I was like, 'No,'" said Ritchson. "I wanted the camera to come up and just stay on my face the whole time while I get smashed through a table on the barn floor."

This scene marks the first time that we have seen Reacher really get his butt kicked, and although he came out on top in the end, he did take one hell of a beating. Before season 3 hit screens, Ritchson told GamesRadar+ that it's important for audiences to see that Reacher can be beaten sometimes, adding, "You know, if [Reacher] is like, too superhuman or indestructible, it's not gonna be that fun to watch".

Reacher seasons 1-3 are available to stream in full on Prime Video, with Reacher season 4 on its way. For more, check out our list of the best shows on Prime Video, or keep up with upcoming shows heading your way in 2025 and beyond.

<![CDATA[ Ironheart release date, cast, plot, and everything else you need to know about the Marvel show ]]> Ironheart is finally almost here, five years after it was announced and three years since Riri Williams's first appearance. The Marvel Phase 5 show will be the second MCU series of the year, following hot on the heels of Daredevil: Born Again.

Below, we've rounded up everything there is to know about Ironheart, from details on the release date to the cast, and even when we might see a trailer. With just a few months until release, there's surprisingly little out there about the new Marvel show – but we're expecting that to change soon.

So, for everything you need to know about the next Marvel show, check out our ultimate guide right here.

Ironheart release date

Ironheart will arrive on Disney Plus on June 24, 2025 – and June 25, 2025 in the UK. That's three years on from Riri's debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which arrived in November 2022.

Still, late is better than never, right? While we wait for the new series, you can also check out our list of the best Disney Plus shows currently streaming.

Ironheart trailer: when will we get one?

Dominique Thorne in Ironheart

With Ironheart not arriving until June, we can assume we won't get a trailer until April at the earliest, though most likely we'll see one in May. A trailer has screened behind closed doors before, though, and a new look at Riri in the suit was recently shared.

Ironheart cast

The Ironheart cast is as follows:

 • Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams
 • Anji White as Ronnie Williams
 • Anthony Ramos as Parker Robbins/The Hood
 • Manny Montana as Cousin John
 • Lyric Ross as Natalie Washington
 • Matthew Elam as Xavier Washington
 • Alden Ehrenreich as Joe McGillicuddy
 • Regan Aliyah as TBC

While the cast list seems pretty tied up, this is Marvel we are talking about, so expect to see some surprise cameos from other MCU faces as well. Sacha Baron Cohen is also rumored to be playing the villainous Mephisto in the series, but this has yet to be confirmed by Marvel.

We'll keep you posted as soon as any more names get mentioned! If you need to catch up on the timeline, you can also read our in-depth guide on how to watch all the Marvel movies and shows in order.

Ironheart plot speculation

Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Hardly anything is known about the Ironheart plot just yet. We last saw Riri in Wakanda Forever, where she suited up as Ironheart for the final fight in a fancy suit of her own. So, we can assume her show will pick up in the aftermath of returning to the US following her adventures in Wakanda.

We also know Anthony Ramos will be playing the Hood, a character who appears to be neither friend nor foe. "I think Parker, almost is a guy who was a misfit," Ramos said onstage at D23 back in 2022 (H/T TheWrap). "He wants to take in other misfits and show the world that you looked at us as outcasts but we're going to end up on top. Parker is… a deep dive into a dark place. But on the inside Parker believes that he's doing good and Parker has a love for his crew and a love for his people. I'm trying to dance around the plot because I can't give y'all the deets! He's a complex guy and Parker kicks ass."

More about the plot will most likely become apparent when the first trailer is unveiled, but that might still be a way off yet. We'll just have to wait and see.

<![CDATA[ The Last of Us showrunner says he isn't worried about fan reaction to season 2: "The best way we could respect our fans and honor them is to not worry about them" ]]> The Last of Us showrunner and creator Neil Druckmann says he's not too worried about how diehard fans of the game will react to season 2.

"I've said this before, but I feel like the best way we could respect our fans and honor them is to not worry about them when we're crafting the thing because outside influence or pressure doesn't lead you to good creative choices," Druckmann tells GamesRadar+.

When season 2 was first announced, there was quite a bit of fan chatter about everything from aging up Bella Ramsey (or casting an older actor) to who would be the perfect Abby to whether or not they could pack the entire game into one season. With season 1 being so revered and beloved by diehard fans (like myself), there's a lot of intense hype and speculation around the second season. Druckmann, creator of the video game franchise, is confident that he and co-showrunner Craig Mazin have made the "correct" choices for the TV adaptation.

"Craig and I are just very meticulous in how we interrogate every moment, every creative choice and kind of look at all the options in front of us to make sure we're picking as Craig likes to say 'the correct one.' And it's a correct one for The Last of Us in this medium, which wouldn't necessarily be the same correct one for The Last of Us in the video game format."

One of these choices includes stretching Part 2 over more than one season, with Mazin saying that four sounds like a good number. This makes perfect sense considering the length of the game. For reference, The Last of Us Part 1 takes around 15 hours of gameplay to finish the main story, but around 25 hours to hit 100% completion. It made sense for the story to be told over nine 60-minute long episodes. The Last of Us Part 2 takes around 22-26 hours to finish the main story...but up to 42 hours to hit 100% completion. Because the game is so dense, it makes a whole lot of sense to stretch this out over multiple seasons.

Continues Druckmann: "So the stress we often feel is with the resource that we have, with the time that we have, are we taking the best advantage of that to make the best choices for the best possible show?"

<![CDATA[ The Last of Us season 2 showrunner talks new and even more terrifying types of infected with a big tease: "The Rat King is something that anybody who has played TLOU Part 2 is traumatized by" ]]> The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin says we can expect to see some of the more "traumatizing" types of infected in season 2.

"I think we can say that we are dedicated to the idea that just as humanity is progressing and [Jackson] is getting bigger and they're bringing people in the infected are also evolving," Mazin tells GamesRadar+. "So we're certainly going to see quite a few changes along the way to impress upon our characters. Oh, do you think you've figured it out, you think you're good at handling the infected? The Rat King is something that anybody who has played The Last of Us Part 2 is traumatized by for so many reasons, count myself among them."

Continues Mazin: "All I'll say is I don't understand how you could make a show called The Last of Us and not eventually get where it ought to go. When and how, we'll keep that a mystery."

In season 1 – spoiler alert from here on for both the first season and games – we didn't see too many different types of infected – but we did Joel get attacked by a Bloater in episode 5 after it crawls out from a pit of other infected. If you aren't familiar with the games, you might not know that there are several types of infected, including a Stalker, which hides and waits for the player, Shamblers, which ooze puss, and the aforementioned Rat King.

The Rat King is one of the bosses in TLOU Part 2, the game, and I definitely don't recommend playing through that part at night. It's Abby who fights the Rat King in the game, and it'll be exciting to see if and when Kaitlyn Dever comes face-to-face with it at some point this season.

<![CDATA[ The Last of Us' Neil Druckmann has a cryptic response to whether the TV show could pull a Game of Thrones and continue beyond the games: "I leave nothing on the line" ]]> Could The Last of Us TV show follow fellow HBO big hitter Game of Thrones and carry on past the source material it's adapting? Naughty Dog boss and The Last of Us showrunner Neil Druckmann isn't giving a straight answer.

"I have to have an ending," Druckmann told IGN when they posed the question to him. "When I made The Last of Us 1, I didn't know if there was going to be a sequel, so that had to be a definitive ending. When I worked on Uncharted 4, I don't know if we'll ever get to do it again. I need it to be a definitive ending. Last of Us 2, same way. All these things have to line up.

"I don't know how long I'll keep doing this or whether I'll be given another opportunity," he continued. "So I leave nothing on the line. Right now it's like, we have an ending in mind. And that ending will be it. That ending will be it for this story."

There have been rumors of a third game since late 2022 and, in February 2024, Druckmann said he had a "concept" for The Last of Us 3. However, asked about a potential threequel more recently, he said, "I guess the only thing I would say is don't bet on there being more of Last of Us. This could be it."

As for the show, a third season is in the works, but that will be a continuation of The Last of Us 2. No further seasons have been officially greenlit yet, but HBO boss Francesca Orsi recently said that the company envisioned four seasons for the show.

The Last of Us season 2 arrives on HBO and Max in the US and Sky and NOW in the UK on April 13. In the meantime, check out our guide to the other best new TV shows still to come in 2025.

<![CDATA[ Attack on Titan studio rebooting a cult classic '80s shonen anime for Netflix, and it starts streaming very soon ]]> Netflix and Wit Studio are resurrecting an old anime favorite. The companies are working on a fresh adaptation of Yaiba, a classic shonen manga from the late '80s by Gosho Aoyama, and it’s due to premiere in a matter of days.

In Yaiba, a young boy training to become a samurai winds up moving from his first home with his father to the big city, where he learns he’s destined to protect the world from great evil in arch-rival, Takeshi Onimaru. What follows is a charming coming-of-age narrative full of typically memorable characters, cool fights and more than a few laughs.

It has something of a cult following among shonen readers, and clearly some people at Wit Studio are among the fanbase. The outfit responsible for the first three seasons of Attack of Titan and Ranking of Kings has made a new anime based on Yaiba, called Yaiba: Samurai Legend.

The production is directed by Takahiro Hasui, who's overseen episodes of Mob Psysho 100 and My Hero Academia, while scripts are being handled by Touko Machida, who's written for dozens of properties and for whom it’ll be the biggest international release. The latest trailer reveals a gorgeous, lively screen translation befitting of such talent.

You can see elements of the set up, with Yaiba's background as someone living a rural lifestyle before being plunged into an urban environment, and then the introduction of more fantastical elements. Naturally, it all climaxes in some big moves from our young master sword-wielder, but we’ll have to wait and see how those fights go down.

This is the second adaptation, after a show in the early '90s known as Legendary Brave Swordsman Yaiba, which ran for 52 episodes. Sadly, that version is tricky to find these days, so Netflix handling this latest production allows more people than ever to enjoy Yaiba’s roving adventures.

Yaiba: Samurai Legend premieres on Netflix and Hulu in the US on April 5, 2025, with episodes coming out weekly. We'll keep you updated on the UK release. We have a list of the best anime on Netflix for more hits on the streaming service.

<![CDATA[ Hollywood legend Kevin Bacon pitched his new "what the f***" demon hunter TV series to Amazon himself – which already has plans for season 2: "What’s that quote? 'Everybody loves bacon'" ]]> The Bondsman writer and executive producer Erik Oleson says Kevin Bacon's upcoming demon hunter series is a wild ride that everyone will love – because who doesn't love bacon?

"If you’re treating the story honestly and it were really happening to you, you would have this Kevin Bacon question mark expression of 'What the fuck is actually happening?'" Oleson says in the new issue of SFX magazine, which features Black Mirror season 7 on the cover and hits newsstands on Wednesday, March 26.

"This is very much a WHAT THE FUCK show, right? Like, what the fuck are these idiots writing? What the fuck is happening? What’s going to happen next? We’ve seen countless stories about deals with the Devil. I think what makes this show unique is its mash-up of those tropes, which are inverted and reinvented in ways that you don’t expect."

The Bondsman, stars Bacon as Hub Halloran, a grizzled bounty hunter who is murdered, before being brought back to life by the Devil with an order to hunt rogue demons that have broken out of Hell. Bacon pitched the concept for the series to Amazon himself, along with Blumhouse boss Jason Blum.

Realizing they had something special on their hands, Amazon reached out to Oleson, a veteran of shows such as Daredevil, Carnival Row and The Man In The High Castle, to shape David’s concept into a potential series.

Not a subscriber to SFX? Then head on over here to get the latest issues sent directly to your home/device!

The cast includes Jennifer Nettles as Hub's ex-wife Maryanne, Beth Grant as his mom Kitty, Damon Herriman as Lucky, Maxwell Jenkins as Cade, and Jolene Purdy as Midge.

"Kevin and I really built the show from the ground up, and he and I see eye to eye about the optimal way to run a television series. I've worked on some shows through the years that were, let's just say, less than smooth operations," he continues.

Adds Oleson: "Kevin Bacon in a deal with the Devil hunting demons – hey, come on!" he laughs. "What’s that quote from the Super Bowl [Uber Eats advert]? 'Everybody loves bacon.'"

The Bondsman releases on April 3. Read more in the latest issue of SFX magazine, which features Black Mirror season 7 on the cover and will available from Wednesday, March 26. Check out what you need to be looking out for on newsstands below...

<![CDATA[ Reacher season 3 ending explained: Who dies, does Reacher get his revenge, and how does it set up season 4? ]]> Jack Reacher’s third adventure is sadly over. Yes, that’s right, season 3 of Prime Video’s Reacher has come to an end with an explosive finale. Based on Lee Child’s seventh Jack Reacher book titled 'Persuader', Reacher season 3 saw the hero venture into his most tense and dangerous mission yet. But with a new team of trusty law enforcers and some familiar faces behind him, Reacher set out for revenge, and in the end, pretty much met his match.

Warning, the following article contains major spoilers for the Reacher season 3 ending, so make sure you are all caught up on the third instalment before reading on. But first, check out our Reacher season 3 review.

Welcoming back Alan Ritchson as the beefy wanderer, season 3 follows the hero as he goes undercover for the DEA in a shady import business posing as a rug company, which involves a dark character from his past. While struggling to balance seeking revenge on what Xavier Quinn and trying to find lost DEA informant, Reacher season 3 facing down the man he thought he had killed years ago for one last showdown.

However, with multiple storylines running through the season and familiar characters entering the picture, it goes without saying that the Reacher season 3 ending can be a little confusing. But, don’t worry: that's where we come in. Below you will find answers to all of your burning questions, including whether or not Reacher’s toughest opponent yet is really dead, and where Reacher goes in the end.

Reacher season 3 ending recap

The final episode in Reacher season 3, titled ‘Unfinished Business’, opens with Reacher, Beck, Duffy, Villanueva, and federal law enforcement waiting at a local import site where Xavier Quinn’s big deal is about to go down. However, while Reacher is on the phone to Francis Neagley, who is tailing the truck filled with illegal merchandise that is supposed to be heading to the import site, he soon realizes that she is following the truck to the house where Beck's birthday party is taking place.

The team realizes that the deal is really going down at the house, and this is all a trap. Before we know it, Quinn’s men start shooting at the federal agents and Reacher’s team, with Reacher, Duffy, Beck, and Villanueva barely making it out alive. While out, the team manages to take over the truck before it heads into the house, and at gunpoint, the driver convinces bodyguard Paulie to let him enter the property.

However, Paulie is a little too skeptical about the truck and soon finds the team, with Reacher facing up to Paulie while the rest head into the house. Then, what we have been waiting for finally happens. Reacher and Paulie start a rather lengthy and brutal fight that sees the pair brawl in a barn where Reacher is pinned beneath a mass of haybales that seemingly squash him almost to death, but Reacher breaks free. The fight then moves to the edge of the property, where the two plunge into the ocean.

Under the water, the two try to drown each other, with Paulie finally inhaling a big gulp of water and floating to the bottom of the ocean. Reacher then climbs out of the sea and heads back to the house, but when he looks behind him, Paulie is standing in the middle of the road. Seemingly having come back from the dead, Paulie follows Reacher back to the property where the two begin to fight again until Paulie points a rifle at Reacher and pulls the trigger. But Reacher has packed the end of a barrel so the bullet shoots out from the back of the gun into Paulie’s head, killing him.

Inside the house, Neagley poses as a waiter at the party where she keeps a close eye on Quinn and the Russians. In a bid to keep the Russians sweet until Quinn can finally pay the huge debt he owes them, the villain offers an unconscious and extremely vulnerable Teresa to the Russian leader, who apparently has a thing for redheads. But when the leader goes upstairs to find his prize, Duffy is there trying to free Teresa. Duffy points a gun at the leader, and the two face off. All the while, Villanueva is fighting one of Quinn’s men in the bathroom.

When Quinn realises that Beck has double-crossed him, he corners Beck and Beck’s son Richard in the office. Quinn threatens to kill them, but Richard pulls out a gun and points it at Quinn. However, the gun is the same replica that Richard had made for his father earlier, so when Quinn realizes the weapon is fake, he pulls out his own gun and shoots Beck many times, killing him in front of his son. But before Quinn can kill Richard, Reacher and his team enter the room and take hold of the villain.

In a shock twist, just as Reacher, Neagley, and Duffy are marching Quinn outside, the real Russian mob boss is waiting to take Quinn for himself due to the villain owing him lots of money. However, Reacher explains that he has unfinished business with Quinn, but the mob boss is not willing to give him up so easily. However, the two manage to work out a deal, and Reacher finally comes face to face with the man he has been hunting all season. Reacher reminds Quinn of what he did to Dominique and how Reacher shot him years ago for it. And just like that, Reacher shoots Quinn in the head and puts to bed a years long rivalry.

The episode finishes with Reacher planning to tell Duffy that he isn't interested in a romantic relationship as he is a lone wolf, but she beats him to the punch and tells him first. Francis Neagley then departs, and the season closes with Reacher riding off into the sunset on a motorbike, seemingly making his way to the next town.

Is Paulie really dead?

Olivier Richters and Alan Ritchson in Reacher season 3

(Image credit: and Alan Ritchson in Amazon Prime Video)

Perhaps the most exciting part of the whole final episode is the very lengthy fight between Reacher and Beck’s bodyguard Paulie (Oliver Ritchers) which sees the two finally battling outside of the house, in the barn, and even in the ocean. However, with the 7-foot-3-inch tall bodybuilder taking a massive beating from Reacher, seemingly drowning, and then shooting himself in the head by accident, you are probably not alone in wondering if Paulie really is dead.

However, as Reacher packed the end of the barrel with a bullet, which ultimately caused the bullet to fire backwards into Paulie’s face as he tried to shoot Reacher, we can guess that Paulie really is dead this time.

What happens to the Beck family?

Johnny Berchtold and Alan Ritchson in Reacher season 3

In the penultimate episode titled L.A. Story, Reacher and Duffy find out that Quinn has previously used other wealthy families as cash cows before, but when things got messy Quinn would murder the family each time before moving on. Reacher warns Beck about Quinn’s plan so that Beck and his son Richard may stand a chance of walking out alive.

But Richard points a fake gun at Quinn and the criminal opens fire, Beck jumps in front of his son and is shot in the chest multiple times, dying soon after. With his dad dead, Richard manages to make it out alive thanks to Reacher. At the end we see Richard walking out of the Beck mansion carrying a bag of cash, and that's the last we see of him. We can only hope that he flees to a life free of crime.

What was Quinn doing with Teresa?

Brian Tee and Olivier Richters in Reacher season 3

Teresa, a former drug addict whom Duffy caught out on drug charges, was working undercover for the DEA in Quinn’s operation. But when Quinn found out that Teresa was working for the federal government, he had his men abduct her and hold her under the barn on the Beck property. However, when Reacher looked under the barn, he found that Teresa had been moved. In the penultimate episode, we learn that Quinn was keeping Teresa alive and hooked on drugs because she was a redhead. Quinn was planning to give Teresa as a gift to the Russian gang leader, as he was known for having a preference for red-headed women.

Towards the end of the finale, we see the Russian leader heading up to a bedroom in the Beck house where Teresa is being kept, however, Duffy is already in the room saving Teresa. At the end of the episode, Teresa is saved by Duffy and returned to her grandmother.

Are Susan Duffy and Reacher in a romantic relationship now?

Towards the end of the season, DEA agent Susan Duffy (Sonya Cassidy) and Reacher share a kiss, which leads to a little more. This teases audiences into thinking maybe the hero has found his romantic partner after all. However, Reacher is known for entering into a little romantic side quest each season, with Roscoe Conklin in season 1, and with fellow Special Investigator Karla Dixon in season 2.

But at the end of the season 3 finale, both Reacher and Duffy let each other know that although they had a great time together, neither one of them is looking for a serious relationship. So, Reacher is still a single man heading into season 4.

Where does Francis Neagley go in the end?

Maria Sten as Francis Neagley in Reacher

During season 3, we see Frances Neagley (Maria Sten) running her own Private Investigator business from Chicago. But when she helps Reacher find out more information on Quinn, which alerts he villain to her location, she gets a visit from a whole squad of violent men looking to kill her. Of course, she beats thier butts and makes her way to New England to help Reacher put down Quinn for good. However, at the end of the season, Neagley does not go with Reacher. Instead, she heads back home.

This sets the character up for her own upcoming spin-off titled Neagley, which was announced last year. The official synopsis reads: "When [Neagley] learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes hell-bent on justice. Using everything she’s learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley puts herself on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil."

Why did Reacher kill Quinn?

Alan Ritchson in Reacher season 3

The most heart-wrenching episode of Reacher so far, season 3 episode 4 titled ‘Dominique’, gives us more insight into Reacher’s backstory. The flashback episode sees Reacher working in the US military, tracking down criminal activity within the army with the help of his protégé Dominique Kohl. The criminal in question just so happens to be Xavier Quinn. In fear of belittling Dominique and wanting her to have this win for herself, Reacher sends her off with only one other officer to serve Quinn with a warrant.

However, Quinn kills the officer and abducts Dominique, taking her to a rural farm. When Reacher tracks down the two, he finds that Quinn has hung and tortured Dominique to death and escaped. But before Quinn can get too far, Reacher finds him at the edge of a cliff and shoots him in the head, letting his body fall cliffside into the sea. But unbeknownst to Reacher Quinn didn't die. The bullet lodged into his brain, giving him memory loss, but not killing him. That is why Reacher was so shocked to see Quinn alive, and why from that point on he was hellbent on killing him for good.

Where does Reacher go in the end?

At the end of the episode, we see Reacher speeding off into the sunset on a motorcycle. However, as each season is set in a new place, we can guess that season 4 will not be set in Maine, New England again. But as we do not know which of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books the next season will be based on, we do not know where exactly Reacher was speeding off to.

Will there be a Reacher season 4?

<![CDATA[ Reacher season 4: Predicted cast, storyline, and everything we know so far about the Prime Video show ]]> Reacher season 4 is in the works, with the next installment in our favorite hulky nomad’s quest just on the horizon. Although Prime Video has yet to confirm a release date, we do know that filming is due to start in a matter of months, with cast list confirmations surely set to follow.

Based on the popular Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child, Reacher stars Alan Ritchson as a 6'5" ex-soldier who hops from town to town helping those in need and squashing bad guys in the process. Although Amazon is keeping plot details tightly under wraps for season 4, one thing is for sure, Reacher will find trouble wherever he goes. And as each season follows a different storyline, the upcoming show’s fourth installment will be full of surprises.

Reacher season 4 was announced by Amazon before Reacher season 3 even hit screens. But, it can be hard to up to date with where the season is in terms of production, filming, and announcements. But that's where we come in! Below you will find a complete guide to all things Reacher season 4 including cast announcements, plot speculation, and when you can expect the new season of one of the best shows on Prime Video to hit the streamer.

Reacher season 4 release date speculation

Alan Ritchson in Reacher season 2

There is currently no confirmed release date for Reacher season 4. However, Jack Reacher author Lee Child did reveal to TechRadar that season 4 is "written and ready to go" and will "start shooting in the summer."

Reacher season 3 began filming in late 2023, finished in summer 2024, and aired in February 2025 – that's seven months after filming finished. Seasons 1 and 2 took 10 months to hit the screen after filming wrapped. If season 4 follows the same type of pattern and finishes filming at the end of 2025 then we could expect to see the season sometime in summer 2026. But we are hoping it comes a little sooner!

Reacher season 4 plot speculation

Alan Ritchson in Reacher season 3

Each season of Reacher so far has been based on one of Lee Child’s Reacher books. Season 1 was adapted from book 1 – The Killing Floor, season 2 was taken from book 11 – Bad Luck and Trouble, and season 2 is based on book 7 – The Persuader.

However, although Reacher season 1 was adapted from Child’s first Reacher book, the following seasons haven't followed on in any particular order. Due to there being 29 (and counting) books so far in the series, there is no way to know for sure which novel the fourth season will take inspiration from.

But that hasn't stopped fans on Reddit from speculating which book the Amazon series could tackle next. Many viewers think that based on the Dominique flashback scenes in season 3, Child’s 19th book Personal may be next in line to get the small screen treatment. The novel sees the US military reach out to Reacher for help when the French president gets shot. But when the hero makes his way across the Atlantic to Paris and then London, he soon realizes that the case has become very personal.

However, other fans seem to think that Child’s 22nd novel The Midnight Line may be next up. The author told Business Insider that this is the book he wants to see adapted most, and seeing as though Child serves as a producer on the show, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to think he has some say in which books get adapted. Star Ritchson also expressed how much he enjoyed reading The Midnight Line, which follows Reacher finding a woman’s West Point class ring in a pawn shop and going on a quest to find its owner.

The one thing we do know is that season 4 will be filmed in the summer, so that leaves winter set books such as 61 Hours out of the race.

Reacher season 3 recap and ending explained

Brian Tee and Olivier Richters in Reacher season 3

Reacher season 3 saw the ex-soldier go to his most vulnerable state yet as we went undercover and lived in enemy territory. In order to find a lost DEA informant named Teresa, Reacher posed as a wannabe bodyguard to gain access to a dodgy rug import business involved in shady dealings. However, once inside it became apparent that a dark figure from Reacher’s past who he thought he had killed years ago, Xavier Quinn, was in control of the whole thing.

With Reacher out for revenge and DEA agent Susan Duffy hellbent on finding her informant, the season came to a fiery end with Reacher pointing a gun at the man he hates most. For more on that, check out our Reacher season 3 ending explained guide.

However, as each season of Reacher follows a separate story, we don't think season 4 will continue the New England Storyline. But some characters from season 3 could well show up in the next installment just as seasons 1 and 2 stars, such as Maria Sten's Franic Negaley, have appeared in following seasons.

Reacher season 4 cast: predicted returning cast members

Maria Sten as Francis Neagley in Reacher

Of course, there would be no Reacher without star Alan Ricthson, and with the star freely talking about the upcoming season during the Reacher season 3 press run, we can certainly expect Ritchson to return. As for the rest of the stars, we know that the show shakes up the cast every season due to Reacher landing in a brand new town each time, so expect to see some fresh faces.

However, some cast members have returned from season to season. For example, Malcolm Goodwin who played Oscar Finley in season 1 showed up for one episode in season 2. Plus, season 2 star Maria Sten who plays Francis Neagley returned for a number of episodes in season 3. But with Sten now set to star in her own Neagley spin-off series, we can't be sure that the badass ex-soldier turned private investigator will show up in Reacher’s world again.

So, for now, the Reacher season 4 cast list is looking pretty thin on the ground, but is as follows:

 • Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher

Is there a Reacher season 4 trailer?

There is no trailer or teaser video for Reacher season 4 just yet as filming on the upcoming installment has not started yet. The first Reacher season 3 trailer dropped in December 2024, just two months before the season hit screens. This means that the official season 4 trailer could drop sometime in early 2026, but that all depends on when filming wraps and when the season is set to release.

Is Reacher season 4 the final season?

Alan Ritchson and Sonya Cassidy in Reacher season 3

Although Prime Video has yet to confirm whether season 4 will be the final installment, it doesn't look likely due to the sucess of the series so far. Upon its release, Reacher season 3 became the highest-rated season so far scoring an impressive 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.

It looks like star Ritchson isn't ready to hang up Reacher's one jacket yet either as when asked if he can see Reacher settling down anytime soon, the star told GamesRadar+, "For now, I think we're going to continue to honor the fact that Reacher really is a lone wolf."

<![CDATA[ Netflix is rebooting Scooby-Doo as a live-action series from the producer of Supergirl and The Flash centered around a "supernatural murder" at a summer camp ]]> Hanna-Barbera's classic cartoon Scooby-Doo is getting yet another fresh coat of paint in the form of an updated concept, this time from Netflix, who have announced a new live-action reimagining of the story that recasts Fred, Shaggy, Daphne, and Velma as kids attending and living around a summer camp.

Titled simply Scooby-Doo, the new show is executive produced by none other than Greg Berlanti, well-known as the producer behind DC comic adaptation shows including Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and more, as well as The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. He'll be joined by production company Midnight Radio, consisting of producers Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg, known for Netflix's live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bepop.

In the series, Shaggy and Daphne are pals attending a summer camp, while Velma is a townie living nearby, and Fred is a new kid in town with a mysterious past. They'll come together when they find Scooby, a Great Dane puppy who may be the key to solving a murder.

"A modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog," reads the official logline for the Netflix streaming series. "During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets."

As fans well know, the classic Scooby-Doo almost never experienced anything to do with actual supernatural beings, instead unmasking various criminals pretending to be ghosts, monsters, and other magical creatures in order to further their schemes. We're expecting this could likely carry over to the new show as well, despite the outwardly supernatural set-up for the plot.

"One of my first and favorite jobs in Hollywood was sitting with Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera while they signed animation cells," says Berlanti in a statement. "Josh and Scott and everyone at Midnight Radio have crafted a story that captures their amazing spirits and their genius creation. We are grateful to them and everyone at Warners and Netflix for the partnership in helping bring this iteration of Scooby-Doo to life!"

No planned premiere date for Netflix's Scooby-Doo has been announced.

<![CDATA[ Harlan Coben’s new novel is set to be "more of a sequel" to the hit Netflix series Fool Me Once: "I don’t know any time that’s ever happened" ]]> Harlan Coben's new novel, Nobody's Fool, is actually a sequel to the hit Netflix adaptation of Fool Me Once.

"This new book is actually about Adeel Akhtar’s character Sami Kierce in Fool Me Once one year after the events of that series," Coben told The Hollywood Reporter. "And what’s weird is that the Sami Kierce character, and his wife, weren’t major characters in the Fool Me Once book. So it’s almost more of a sequel to the TV series than the book. I don’t know any time that’s ever happened. Certainly, it hasn’t happened in my career."

An eight-part thriller series based on Coben's novel Fool Me Once hit Netflix in early 2024 and immediately reached no. 1 on the global streaming charts. The series stars Michelle Keegan as Maya, a widow who sees her murdered husband (Armitage) enter her home as an intruder on her security camera footage. The show debuted at number one and reached number eight on the streamer's top 10 most-watched English language series of all time, beating out Stranger Things season 3 and Bridgerton season 2.

There are also a plethora of other adaptations on the way as part of Coben's overall deal with Netflix. Run Away, based on the 2019 book of the same name, is the next adaptation and is set to premiere sometime in 2026.

<![CDATA[ Daredevil: Born Again fans are loving the MCU cameos in this week's episodes – especially the Hawkeye reunion ]]> Daredevil: Born Again has already seen the return of several familiar faces, from Bullseye to Punisher. But this week's double bill brought back another Marvel character: Swordsman.

Jack Duquesne, AKA Swordsman, first appeared in the MCU in 2021's Hawkeye, played by Tony Dalton (who reprised the role for Born Again). He's Kate Bishop's mother's new fiancé, a wealthy socialite, and a very skilled fencer. It's only in episode 6 of Daredevil: Born Again, however, that we see him in vigilante mode for the first time – and, just like in Hawkeye, he's still working against Wilson Fisk.

His cameo went down well with Marvel fans, too. "I can’t believe they actually have Swordsman here I really love this man. Such an underrated superhero," tweeted one viewer.

"Last night's #Daredevil was great. Return of the Swordsman, Kamala’s pops. Matt putting the suit on," said another, referring to another cameo from Mohan Kapur's Yusuf Khan, Ms. Marvel's father.

"Swordsman and Kingpin together omg it's like a Hawkeye reunion!!" someone else pointed out. "2 cameos back to back, bruh we are eating GOOD with this series !" replied another fan.

Episode 6 saw another big moment for the show, referenced in one of the above tweets: Matt Murdock is back on the streets as Daredevil. After seemingly giving up his vigilante ways for good after Foggy's death, this week saw him suit up again. Watch out, Hell's Kitchen – The Man Without Fear is back.

New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again are releasing weekly on Disney Plus. Make sure you never miss an episode with our Daredevil: Born Again release schedule and for more, check out our Daredevil: Born Again season 1 review.

<![CDATA[ Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies says that the mysterious Mrs. Flood will be in every episode of season 2, as "spectacular answers" are finally delivered ]]> Doctor Who season 2 is swiftly approaching, meaning it won't be long until fans are reunited with their favorite characters – which of course includes Ruby Sunday's mysterious neighbor Mrs. Flood, who is brilliantly played by Anita Dobson.

Ever since she first appeared, fans have been curious about who Mrs. Flood really is, given that she regularly breaks the fourth wall and seems to know exactly what lies ahead for the Doctor. Thankfully, it looks like all will be revealed in the upcoming season.

Speaking in the new issue of SFX magazine, which features Black Mirror season 7 on the cover and is out now, showrunner Russell T Davies spilled on what fans can expect from the character in the new episodes. And not only will we finally get the answers we have been longing for, but Mrs. Flood will also be in every single episode.

As he says: "There are answers, there are spectacular answers. She's at her finest. And you will see her every single week – she's in every single episode. You won't ever quite know where and when to expect her..." What a tease!

So far there have been many theories about Mrs. Flood's true identity, especially since she has been wearing the outfits of former companions and warned that she knows how the Doctor's story ends. Could Mrs. Flood perhaps be a version of a previous companion like the Time Lord Romana? Or maybe she's the God of Stories, which would make sense given that the previous season was very invested in gods, featuring the likes of the Toymaker and Maestro.

Only time will tell when the show finally returns to our screens, with Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor back in action alongside new companion Belinda (played by Varada Sethu).

<![CDATA[ A Star Wars actor just quietly confirmed that filming has begun on Ahsoka season 2 ]]> Eman Esfandi just quietly revealed that Ahsoka season 2 has officially entered into production.

The Ezra Bridger actor reposted a (now expired) story on his personal Instagram account where he can be seen opening a celebratory bottle of champagne. The caption reads, "Congrats on launching your podcast and kicking off Ahsoka season 2!"

Ahsoka season 2 was announced back in January 2024, with none other than Dave Filoni at the helm. There was no further news until October 2024, when The Hollywood Reporter quietly revealed that filming was set to begin in 2025 - which means we can more or less expect a 2026 release date.

You might remember that Ahsoka season 1 ended on a cliffhanger of sorts with Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) left stranded after helping Ezra escape Peridea, with Baylan Skoll starting off on a new mission, and Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) heading out to wreak havoc in the galaxy. The fate of Sabine's beloved Loth-cat Murley was also left unknown (though Filoni later confirmed that the sweet little guy was just fine). It's worth noting that Rory McCann is set to take over as Baylan Skoll for season 2 after Ray Stevenson's passing.

Ahsoka season 2 does not yet have a release date. For more, check out our list of the best Disney Plus shows and the best Disney Plus movies to stream right now. For more from a galaxy far, far away, check out our guide to all of the upcoming Star Wars movies and shows you need to know about.

<![CDATA[ 20 years after Doctor Who returned to our screens, fans are sharing their favorite moments including from comeback episode Rose ]]> Doctor Who returned to our screens 20 years ago today when 'Rose' premiered on BBC One on March 26, 2005 after 16 years off air.

Fans have taken to the internet to share the love for the show, and more specifically the first episode of 'Nu Who', which was written by Russell T Davies and introduced Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor and Billie Piper's companion Rose.

"Happy 20 years my old friend," one viewer posted, alongside a GIF of the Ninth Doctor. "Never stop running."

"It's been 20 years since this moment and it's still a great start to #DoctorWho," said another, sharing a clip of the department store where Rose works blowing up.

And when the Doctor first took Rose’s hand and whisked her into the chaos, he took us all, including a new generation of fans, with him and we’ve not looked back since in 20 years," tweeted another.

The episode also includes the iconic "turn of the Earth" speech that the Doctor gives to Rose. "Still one of the absolute best scenes in all of #DoctorWho," another fan shared with a clip of the scene. "Happy 20th to 'Rose' and to New Who, a television show that has profoundly shaped my life and career."

Another account shared a quote from Peter Capaldi, who played the Twelfth Doctor, praising the moment from the season premiere: "The most dazzling thing is the Doctor, who appears in the person of Christopher Eccleston. And when he does the speech about the turn of the Earth and being able to feel it, I thought yeah, this guy is Doctor Who."

20 years later, a new season of Doctor Who is about to arrive on our screens, with Ncuti Gatwa about to embark on his second outing in the TARDIS as the Fifteenth Doctor. This time, he's got a new companion in tow: Belinda Chandra, played by Varada Sethu.

Doctor Who season 2 arrives on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, and Disney Plus on April 12. In the meantime, fill out your watchlist with our guide to the other best new TV shows on the way in 2025.

<![CDATA[ Sorry, Adolescence season 2 isn't happening, despite its 99% Rotten Tomatoes score and record-breaking Netflix audience ]]> Have you watched Adolescence yet? The short-form drama starring Stephen Graham has become a lightning rod for all sorts of conversations about young men and violence. The viewership on Netflix is massive, but despite those numbers, season 2 probably isn't going to happen.

The story focuses on Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy who’s accused of killing a classmate of his, Katie. As we continue to reel from the first season, there’s some demand for another set of episodes, this time from Katie's point-of-view, to give us a more complete perspective.

Jack Thorne, who co-created the show with Stephen Graham, spoke about doing a follow-up on ITV's This Morning, where he stated it's not on the cards right now, mostly because they don't feel qualified to write it. "I don't think we're the right people to tell Katie's story," he explains. "I think there are other makers out there that could tell beautiful dramas about Katie or girls like Katie, and that those shows should be made."

The purpose of Adolescence was to tell Jamie's story in as well-rounded a fashion as they could, and zooming out of his immediate world might not serve the same narrative ends. "Maybe trying to tell her story would dilute that in some way and maybe we would be inadequate for that task," Thorne adds.

Told over four episodes, each filmed in a single-shot, Adolescence covers Jamie's arrest, the subsequent investigation into his life, and the fallout within his family. Owen Cooper portrays Jamie, while Graham plays his father, Eddie Miller.

The narrative we see across the four episodes is Jamie's arc in totality, and Thorne states they aren't planning to go back for another chapter. "I don't think there's anywhere more we can take Jamie, so I don't think there is a series two," he explains. "We'd love to explore the one shot format in another way. We’d love to tell other stories with it, but I don't think [another series] of Adolescence is quite right for us."

Disappointing though this might be, Adolescence has touched a nerve. It’s currently the most-watched Netflix limited series ever, with 66.3 million hours watched in two weeks. Meanwhile, it stands at 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Besides being a great show, people are resonating with the themes and ideas. The series looks at how male violence and misogyny are perpetuated through online spaces, and what we can do to combat influencers who're feeding troubling rhetoric to our young men and boys. Many tricky conversations have emerged, and it seems like there are many more to come as more people enjoy the show.

You can find Adolescence on Netflix now. Check out the best movies on Netflix for other top class viewing options.

<![CDATA[ Daredevil: Born Again episode 5 just nodded to Thanos and the Avengers movies in the most obscure way ]]> Warning: This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again episode 5.

There are a lot of masks in Daredevil: Born Again. Stands to reason, right, given that its central character is a crime-fighting vigilante with a penchant for extreme violence. But in one of the latest instalments of the Disney Plus show, it wasn't Matt Murdock's epic stash of cowls that caught our attention, but rather the multi-colored facial coverings of the bandits he brawled with.

In episode 5, titled 'With Interest', Matt (Charlie Cox) is tasked with thwarting the plans of a bunch of gun-toting bank robbers. During the hold-up, the thieves take the staff, including Ms. Marvel's dad Yusuf Khan, hostage, prompting ol' Hornhead to kick some serious butts.

As Dexerto points out, though, the criminals masks are red, blue, green, purple, and yellow, which hardcore MCU nerds recognize as the colors of the Infinity Stones. Well, if you're not counting the amber-hued Soul Stone anyway.

Orange's omission in the mask line-up kind of strengthens the fact that this is a subtle Easter egg to Mr Infinity Gauntlet himself Thanos and the Avengers movies if anything, however, because the diamond the crooks are after is... you guessed it... orange. Some fans have even taken it to mean that the Man Without Fear's series is introducing the stones into his more grounded world, though we're not sure we buy into the theory.

Following this week's double-bill, there are only three episodes left of Daredevil: Born Again season 1. If you've been enjoying it, fear not, though, as a second season is currently filming and slated to come out early 2026.

Stream the story so far on Disney Plus now, as new episodes drop every Tuesday in the US and Wednesday in the UK. <![CDATA[ Daredevil: Born Again's long-awaited moment has been called "pure cinema" featuring one of the "best lines in comic book movie history" ]]> Warning: This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again episode 6.

It finally happened – Matt Murdock has suited up once again as Daredevil. The moment came after Angela Del Toro was kidnapped by creepy serial killer Muse, prompting Matt to stop resisting his old ways and fight bad guys once again.

Even more perfect is how Matt makes the decision as the crescendo builds in the music before he calls 911. Then, without reporting Angela's disappearance, he just says, "f**k it" and suits up once again. The episode then sees Matt charging over the roofs of New York City and into Muse's lair where he's been draining Angela's blood.

Muse and Daredevil get into a brutal fight, and fans have been loving the superhero's return to screens. The fact it is overlaid with Wilson Fisk embracing his Kingpin nature once again, too, has led to some praise from viewers.

"Cross cutting between Matt and Fisk as they finally give into their violent natures and let loose with more anger than we've ever seen from them hits like CRACK, what an insane way to end an episode," wrote one on Twitter, while another added: "This might be my all time favorite fight scene!!! ITS SO FUCKING GOOD."

"The score kicking in right when Daredevil finally makes his grand return OH MY GOD THIS IS SO PEAK," added another on Twitter while fourth simply shared a gif calling the episode six ending "pure cinema".

There was a lot of love too for Matt's throwaway line. "Matt Murdock saying 'Fuck It' here is genuinely one of the best lines in Comic Book Movie history," wrote another viewer on Twitter. Posting on Reddit, one user agreed, adding: "I love how instead of a big reveal for the lead up all season to Matt putting on the suit, we just got a 'f—k it'."

Meanwhile, a third added on Reddit: "He fully blacked out. The second he said 'f**k it' I knew he going punisher level of no fucks given". It's fair to say, people are happy that Red is back in the suit – and with just three more episodes to go, it will be exciting to see where this leads him.

<![CDATA[ Daredevil: Born Again has pulled another scene straight from the comics – and it's one of the darkest moments yet ]]> Warning: this article contains spoilers from Daredevil: Born Again episode 6

Daredevil: Born Again dropped two very different episodes this week, but it was the latter that was the most chilling. Giving us our best look yet at Muse and his horrific street artwork, the serial killer claimed some more victims on the streets of New York City.

However, there was one particularly grisly moment that stands out as two young women approach Muse mid-artwork. "Hey are you Muse?" they ask him, "Is it cool if we take a picture with you?". He then lunges at them before we see the brutal aftermath later in the episode where Muse has gouged their eyes out and arranged their bodies next to his artwork. Yikes.

It turns out this scene was actually pulled directly from the Charles Soules run of the Daredevil comics. There are a few differences, most notably that the artwork in the comics is of Punisher rather than the Statue of Liberty as in the show. However, it's a clear homage to the original work – check it out below.

Also, it's worth noting that the women did not make it out alive in the comic book version either…

This isn't the first time that the Marvel show has pulled panels directly for the new series, with the official Daredevil Instagram account sharing a few scenes recently too. Among them is a storyline where Foggy fakes his death taken from 1998's Daredevil #82, which has led to all kinds of speculation about what that might mean for a big fan theory.

<![CDATA[ Shaun of the Dead star Nick Frost is playing one of the most beloved Harry Potter characters for the new HBO TV show ]]> The cast of the Harry Potter TV show is growing. Longtime comedy star Nick Frost is reportedly going to portray Hogwarts caretaker Hagrid in the upcoming adaptation.

This comes from Deadline, which states a deal is getting close for Frost to join the school for witchcraft and wizardry. He's the fourth major actor to be lined up for the production after John Lithgow, who’s portraying Professor Dumbledore, Janet McTeer, who'll be playing Professor McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu, who's stepping into the role of Professor Snape.

Frost rose to prominence in the mid-2000s for being Simon Pegg's recurring screen partner in several movies, including Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End. Those three, directed by Edgar Wright, form the Cornetto Trilogy, a set of standalone genre films, each featuring Frost and Pegg in different roles.

Their success is what propelled Frost into the mainstream, where he's had roles in The Adventures of Tintin, The Huntsman movies, Fighting With My Family, and plenty more besides. He's actually back on the big screen quite soon, with a part in the How to Train Your Dragon live-action upcoming movie coming out on June 13, 2025.

The Harry Potter TV series is intended as a decade-long commitment, to cover the seven books of Harry's time in Hogwarts. It's being produced by HBO for Max, which means it'll likely be available on Sky for British viewers.

The approach is considerably different from the Harry Potter movies starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. Beyond being a different medium, the cast is utilizing American talent, when the original films resolutely used British actors.

Francesca Gardiner, a former producer on Succession and His Dark Materials, is writer and showrunner, and Mark Mylod is director and executive producer. There's no release schedule as it's still early days in production, but it appears everything is coming together. In the meantime, why not catch up on the best shows on Max?

It is important to note that the upcoming HBO Harry Potter series has been the subject of criticism and debate due to the show's executive producer and author J.K. Rowling's very public and harmful stance on gender identity. It was a similar situation with the Hogwarts Legacy launch. For more, read more about the Hogwarts Legacy controversy.

<![CDATA[ The Last of Us season 2 showrunners tease a "gorgeous" episode akin to season 1’s Emmy-nominated Bill and Frank story: "Just you wait" ]]> Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann say The Last of Us fans can expect a special episode in season 2 a la that fantastic and heartbreaking Bill and Frank story.

"One thing that Neil and I talked about was just making sure that we didn't just say, 'Oh, like the Bill and Frank episode. People really like that. Let's do a very special episode of The Last of Us season 2,'" Mazin said at a press conference attended by GamesRadar+. "It just has to happen as it happens. But I will say that there is a gorgeous episode in the season, directed by Neil, that is different - it's not Bill and Frank, but it is, in its own way, its own thing, because it needed to be and just you wait. Just you wait."

It was reported earlier this month that Mazin and Druckmann were giving the "Bill and Frank treatment" to Eugene Linden, a minor character from The Last of Us Part II that we only really hear about in passing. The character will be played by The Sopranos and Memento star Joe Pantoliano. While we don't know if Eugene is featured in the episode that Mazin mentioned during the press conference, we can expect him to cross paths with Ellie, Joel, and new character Dina (Isabela Merced) - the latter of whom he has a close friendship within the game.

"Long, Long Time," the season 1 episode that told the heartbreaking story of Bill and Frank, two minor game characters who loved each other until the very end, was revered by fans and critics alike. Nick Offerman won an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Bill, with Murray Bartlett receiving a nomination for his portrayal of Frank.

The Last of Us season 2 premieres April 13 on HBO and Max. For more, check out our list of the best Max shows and the best Max movies to watch right now.

<![CDATA[ Daredevil: Born Again midseason trailer teases Matt Murdock’s violent fight with Muse, including a gory scene straight from the comics ]]> The midseason trailer for Daredevil: Born Again has arrived - and things are about to get dark.

In the brief clip, which can be viewed below, we see Daredevil finally face-off against Muse, in Muse's creepy little lair of course. The scene quickly cuts to human beings being suspended from the ceiling with chains. This seems to be a direct callback to a scene from the comics where Muse's new art project involves suspending a dozen people from the ceiling, slitting their necks, and letting them bleed out. We still don't know what actor is playing Muse, and we don't know if this fight will take place in the final episode - especially since it very much seems like Daredevil is strangling him to death - but it's likely we'll get that final dramatic unmasked shot.

Some fans also pointed out that a brief shot in which Bullseye bares his bloody, busted teeth for the camera is also a callback to the comics. Needless to say, we're stoked for what's to come.

Weirdly enough, four episodes of Daredevil: Born Again have aired - and episodes 5 and 6 are airing tonight as a sort of midseason double feature. We're not complaining, of course.

If season 1 feels short, however, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is currently filming in New York City (and we've already seen some strange behind-the-scenes photos).

Daredevil: Born Again is now streaming on Disney Plus. For more, check out the Daredevil: Born Again release schedule. Then dive into our guides on how to watch the Marvel movies in order and the Marvel timeline.

<![CDATA[ Captain Planet is back after 33 years with a "sexy" makeover and a message that's as important as ever: "Reality has gotten a lot less subtle" ]]> Captain Planet is one of the most iconic cartoons of the '90s, with a focus on ordinary people coming together to fight environmental destruction and corporate greed with elemental powers.

Though Captain Planet has largely been dormant since the cartoon's original run, now he's coming back in the form of a new Dynamite Entertainment comic book by writer David Pepose, artist Eman Casellos, colorist Jorge Sutil, and letter Jeff Eckleberry, which brings the Planeteers and their mission into the 21st century.

With environmental concerns more pressing than ever, the time is right for Captain Planet to return. But before Captain Planet #1 arrives in April, Newsarama spoke with writer David Pepose to dig into what it takes to bring a character like Captain Planet into the modern age while holding onto the best parts of its nostalgic core, and of course the ways that the concept fits into our current reality.

Captain Planet #1

Newsarama: David, we've known each other for a long time, and something that I think is kinda funny is that Captain Planet #1 was announced almost 10 years to the day that you started talking about how much you wanted to make it a comic. It was sincerely within a day or two. How does it feel to finally get to do it, and how is the experience different from what you always imagined?

David Pepose: It's funny, it really feels like the biggest manifestation of my career to date. This is something that I've talked about, especially with you, for over a decade now. I've always seen potential in Captain Planet, seeing all the ingredients for success, how multicultural and diverse it is in such an organic way. It almost feels like Giant-Sized X-Men #1. Seeing the way that new pop culture strains can be kind of injected into Captain Planet's DNA to really heighten all those core qualities. I feel like it's a book that's always been ahead of its time, and now the world is finally caught up.

It's been such a blast to write. Sometimes you work on assignments and it sounds really exciting, and then you get into the nitty-gritty of it, you realize the kind of unexpected challenges. But for Captain Planet, it really feels like a leap of faith being rewarded, like all my instincts have been vindicated. Had I written this book 10 years ago, I wouldn't have been ready for it. But I think with all the lessons that I've learned in my creator-owned books and my work at Marvel, and Dynamite, and Mad Cave, I've really been able to bring a decade of practice to Captain Planet, and it's all the better for it.

Captain Planet #1

You mentioned how relevant the concept of Captain Planet is in 2025, given how serious environmental issues have become. On the other side of that coin is the sort of hokey pop culture reputation the original cartoon has. There are so many memes, and the Don Cheadle video and stuff. How do you move on from the kitchiness of the cartoon while holding on to what is important about the core concept, and the good parts of the nostalgia?

I think that's an excellent question. For me, the appeal of Captain Planet is that it's the world outside your window. This isn't set in a fictional universe, this is set in our real world, and the core cast members are ordinary people like you and me. They're not superheroes. They don't have codenames. They don't even have costumes. So I think it's about taking that ethos and translating it into our book. I think that's similar to what I've been doing on Space Ghost and in my upcoming Speed Racer book.

A big directive I had for all these nostalgic cartoon based comics is, you know, they're very much a product of their time. Captain Planet was very firmly rooted in the early '90s. And so, for me, it's a question of how we take those core elements and just imagine what would happen if it was introduced in 2025 instead. Seeing the ways storytelling has evolved since then, seeing the way geopolitics have changed in the last 35 years, and then letting the characters reflect that.

We're thrilled to see that people seem excited to see that Captain Planet has grown up and evolved with the times, but that it hasn't sacrificed any of the meanings of the the original core message.

Captain Planet #1

As you mentioned, you're carving out a niche for yourself writing comics tied to classic animated shows. You're writing Space Ghost right now, and you've got Speed Racer coming up. What's it like having all three of those on your plate, and how do you make sure to stay true to those concepts without repeating yourself?

I think the big thing is that the genres and tones and modes of storytelling can be a little different between all three. I think the central premise of the way that I attack all these books is the same, which is, how do you take these core elements, these core landmarks, of these original properties, and how do we put just a little bit of a polish, a little bit of a twist on them to make them sparkle like new?

For me, it's always about accessibility. You know, Captain Planet, Space Coast, Speed Racer, they're all brand new continuity, so you don't have to watch the original cartoons in order to appreciate the stories we're telling. I think any of these properties that have the kind of staying power that these three do, there's clearly something core in the concept that has let them withstand the test of time, and that's the thing that I really try to excavate.

And so I think readers have been really excited to see these properties that they maybe only half remember and say, oh, there's like a whole universe here to explore, one that can surprise us, and one that is right for reinterpretation and re-imagination. I think that's why the cartoon nostalgia books have been so successful. Whether it's the Energon universe or Thundercats or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, people want to be surprised. I think all three of the books I'm writing, they have such amazingly untapped potential. I feel really honored and really privileged to be the guy who gets to excavate that.

Captain Planet #1

Earlier you compared the Planeteers to the cast of Giant Size X-Men, and I think that's such a cool comparison. What can you tell us about the Planeteers as they appear in this comic? Which characters have you found yourself drawn to?

Well, for starters, I should talk about Captain Planet himself. I think both in terms of his visuals and his concept, he really represents, I think, the evolution of this series. You know, for those who might remember Captain Planet in his '90s heyday, there was the mullet, there was the crop top. It was very much, like I said, a product of its time.

And so, working with artist Eman Casallos, one of the first things we discussed was, let's give Captain Planet an update in terms of his design. Instead of rooting it so firmly in a particular year, we wanted to channel how timeless this character is, that he's this immortal elemental champion, made out of not flesh and blood, but rocks and stone and ice and flame. It was Eman who wound up pitching us the Captain Planet dad-beard, and of all his designs, everybody immediately glommed onto the beard, like "that is so cool!"

That speaks so much to Captain Planet. I think, as a character, you know, I don't see him as a grim and gritty character, right? If anything, I see him as this classic heroic, reassuring figure. He's somebody whose core mission is that he doesn't want to see anybody die. And so the idea of having him be this fatherly mentor figure, the dad beard, makes perfect sense.

And on top of it, you know, people are suddenly saying "sexy Captain Planet" later. [Laughs]

I saw those comments. [Laughs] It's definitely out there. I think that's funny, but as you said, it's important to find those little touchstones in the cast. Tell me a little bit about how you've given the same fresh coat of paint to the Planeteers.

For me, the thing that's so important about the Planeteers is, the core part of their relationship with Captain Planet is that it's symbiotic. "The power is yours" - that means we can't just wish it all away. Human beings on the ground level are the only thing that can save our world. So that's the core of this series to me - ordinary people are suddenly granted extraordinary powers.

When Eman and I were talking about this, we obviously weren't going to give them costumes, not even matching outfits. We wanted to make sure that these look like people that you could run into on the street.

Captain Planet #1

So for example, Kwame really is like a natural born leader in that he was a former soccer star from Ghana whose career was sidelined after sustaining an injury. I pitched him as the Cyclops of the group.

I love that. Kwame was always my favorite Planeteer.

I love Kwame too. And so when we meet him, he's kind of trying to figure out what his new trajectory is, but he's got that instinctive team building element. Eman put in a lot of small touches, like his hoodie has the number of his favorite football player, and leaning into the walking stick that he had in the original Captain Planet, and giving him a knee-brace.

Wheeler didn't necessarily need a ton of revisions visually, but I love the way that we've re-contextualized his backstory. We've made him an auto worker from Detroit, and I think that's really important, because there's all these different angles and facets of the environmental conversation. And I think Wheeler serves as our point of view character. His hero's journey is really all about justifying the Planeteers as a team.

Linka might be my favorite of the bunch. Out of all the Planeteers, she's done the biggest 180 from when Captain Planet first debuted. Back in 1990 she was the conservative Planeteer from the Soviet Union. Things have changed pretty dramatically in the last 35 years, so Linka is the most leftist Planeteer now. She headlines an underground eco activist punk band, kind of in the vein of Pussy Riot. She's our team scrapper. She's like our Illyana Rasputin, our Wolverine. She's super fun, and Eman Casellos draws her so, so incredibly.

Gi is very similar to the way I wrote Black Knight in the pages of Savage Avengers. Having a team scientist is very important. You know, it always is helpful in terms of a storytelling tool. In the original cartoon, Gi, who's from South Korea, was a marine biologist. I love the idea of somebody who loves the science of all this. She's genuinely enthusiastic. This is her passion. And I think she's the heart of the team, in a lot of ways. She's very bubbly and effervescent, and a lot of people tend to underestimate her, but as we'll see as the series goes on, she's the one who knows the stakes better than anyone. So for her, hope is a revolutionary act. It's either that, or the alternative is to curl up into a ball of despair.

Captain Planet #1

And speaking of smoldering and broodiness, Ma-Ti is probably our biggest glow up of the entire series. And that was by design. A lot of people saw Ma-Ti in the original cartoon as the punchline. You know, what is the power of Heart? And for me, it's tactical telepathy. So the way that we've recontextualized Ma-Ti is that, you know, he's from, he's an indigenous person from Brazil, and he and his people have been forced off their lands by corrupt mining interests. Ma-Tiwas about to stage a kind of a violent revolution, until he encounters the power of Heart, and it cleanses his mind of all rage and anger and violence, and turns him into this avowed pacifist - who can absolutely wreck you. He's our x-factor of the team. He's our Batman. He's our Shang-Chi. He doesn't need to throw a punch because he's got the power of Heart, which means he can summon animals. He can reach inside your mind. He can make you see things that aren't there. He's really cool.

I'm very excited for readers to get to see what happens when the Planeteers finally combine their powers. It's going to be more explosive than you might think.

You've brought up Eman Casellos a lot as a key part of the creation of this comic. How has it been developing your working relationship with him, and how has he surprised you?

Surprise is the perfect word to describe Eman. I was not familiar with his work before we started working together. He's worked on books like Pathfinder over at Dynamite and, boy, I couldn't be more blown away. He came to this book swinging. You know, I could tell from the jump, he believed in this concept, and he came to this hungry and so he really is the best of both worlds. He's got a style that evokes a little bit of Gary Frank, a little bit of Steve Dillon. But there's also bits of Doug Mahnke and Frank Quitely that you can see in the finer details.

And Eman really nails the big, epic, action blockbuster moments, the Avatar: The Last Airbender style elemental bending. But the thing that I love most about Eman is that his characters really act. There's so much great expressiveness and body language, and you get to he really elevates everything that I send him, and he really breathes such incredible life into these characters. He's not a household name, but I hope to change that with this book. He really has just gone the extra mile every step of the way.

I can't ask for a better collaborator than Eman Casselos. And I think when you see the work that he's been putting in on Captain Planet, along with our colorist Jorge Sutil, and our letter Jeff Eckleberry, you're going to see, this is a really good looking book, and so I'm really thankful that we get to also have a cool story attached to it.

Captain Planet #1

The other really big part of Captain Planet is his villains, his rogues gallery. We know that Lucian 'Lootin' Plunder will appear. What else can you tell us about the villains we'll see in this comic?

I think for me, Captain Planet has always been, it's been two sides of the coin. There's environmental disasters and catastrophes, but there's also the human greed that fuels all of that. And so a character like Lucien Plunder, or as they said in the original cartoon Lootin Plunder, he felt like the perfect villain to start all this out. He's sort of this ruthless Elon Musk type billionaire who, you know, he's looking to amass wealth and power, and he's kind of masking it and couching it in this very utopian kind of speech, almost like a Lex Luthor type. And out of all the elements that have been so timely about this book, that's the one that feels perhaps the most uncomfortably so. Every single day that I read the news, or I read the headlines, I'm like, oh, there's Lucian Plunder at it again.

So he, you know, he feels like a really good villain as sort of like a tent pole that we can then kind of spin other Captain Planet villains off of and so we'll be seeing characters like, you know, Dr Blight and her AI assistant Mal. They're going to have, I think, like a really crucial role during our origin story. Duke Nukem is going to appear. Eman Casellos did a really cool job with a redesign on that character, in a way that I think speaks to the heightened elements of the original cartoon, but also kind of keeps them still plausible in our street level world. Argos Bleak is another one who's sort of like our Eric Prince Blackwater mercenary type. He's Plunder's right hand man. And yeah, we have some other villains in that we're going to keep a little close to the vest. But suffice to say, there's going to be lots of threats for Captain Planet and the Planeteers to face, and they are going to escalate accordingly.

People used to say the Eco-Villains are bad, right? That they were too unsubtle. And I'd argue that reality has gotten a lot less subtle. So it's up to us as people from all around the world to really kind of come together if we want to help save our world.

Captain Planet #1

That kind of dovetails right into the last question I want to ask you here. What does it mean to you to be writing this comic, not just as a dream of yours, but also in 2025, right now? And what do you hope that readers will take from Captain Planet as the series goes on?

You know, I think the reason I've championed trying to write this book for so long is my core philosophy as a comic creator and as a comic fan is that there's always room to build a bigger table. I take that philosophy to everything I write, whether it's the concepts that I do or the characters that I gravitate towards. I think Captain Planet is the truest distillation of all that. You know, this is a book where our goal is to make everybody feel seen, to offer everybody a room at the table. And I think that maybe speaks to who I am and where I come from. You know, I grew up Jewish in the Midwest. I learned very, very quickly that I was not part of the dominant culture. And so I want everybody to be able to enjoy the same safety and rights and considerations that I'd ask for my family.

And I know that there's only so much that I can do as a straight, white comic book writer. But I do feel like representation is important, and I think showing people that we are stronger together than we are apart, that's what a book like Captain Planet really means to me. It's a book that is designed to promote inclusiveness, to promote empathy, to show that you know you can come together and be friends with people from all different walks of life, and that, together, we can fight for a better world. I can't wait for readers to take this journey with us and to see why Captain Planet is one of the great superheroes that they've never thought about.

The current Space Ghost comic was one of the best comics of 2024.

<![CDATA[ Abby star Kaitlyn Dever played the Last of Us games with her dad and has been a fan "for a very long time" ]]> Kaitlyn Dever may be new to The Last of Us season 2, joining the cast for round two as antihero Abby, but she's not new to the games – in fact, she's a "huge" fan and even bonded with her dad playing them together.

"I was nervous, I was anxious, but also very excited," she said of joining the show during a press conference attended by GamesRadar+. "I've been a huge fan of this game and the show for a very long time.

"Ifelt less nervous once I got onto set, just because of this wonderful group of people, and being held by Craig [Mazin] and Neil [Druckmann, showrunners], it really felt like I was being cared for and taken care of in a way that I haven't ever really experienced ever before. So it was really a thrill as a person and an actor."

She added, "It was like a real bonding moment for me and my dad, playing it together, and to have it come back around, like, 10 plus years later, it really felt like… Yeah, it felt surreal. Because it really kind of felt like, 'Oh, well, things that are meant to be in your life will happen if they're supposed to.' And it just felt right. Abby felt right. It was very cool."

The next installment of the show sees Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey return as Joel and Ellie, along with a few other new cast members joining Dever. There's Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Danny Ramirez as Manny, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, a character he also voiced in the game.

The Last of Us season 2 premieres on HBO and Max in the US and Sky and NOW in the UK on April 13. For more, check out our guide to the other best shows on Max to add to your watchlist.

<![CDATA[ The Last of Us season 2 showrunners changed the way they introduce Abby so fans don’t get "spoiled in between seasons": "It felt appropriate to give viewers that context right off the bat" ]]> The Last of Us showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann explain why our introduction to Abby is a bit different in the TV adaptation – and it makes perfect sense.

"There are two reasons why we change certain contexts or move certain things up into the story, one of which [is in the game]. In the game, you play as Abby, so you immediately form a path to connection with her, because you're surviving as her, you're running through the snow, you're fighting infected," Druckmann explained at a press conference attended by GamesRadar+.

"And we can withhold certain things and make it a mystery that will be revealed later in the story. We couldn't do that in the show because you're not playing as her. So we need other tools, and that context gave us that shortcut."

In the game, we're introduced to Abby via cut scene. We see her wake up from what appears to be a bad dream, and then immediately meet her friend Owen - who brings her out into the snow to show her a city. Owen tells Abby that the person they're looking for is in there, and that they have to lure him out. Abby says they should do this at any cost, but Owen, fearing for the safety of their group, disagrees. You then immediately jump into the gameplay – and because of this, you immediately begin to care about her as your natural player instincts are to keep her alive. As Druckmann explains, it's hard to convey this in the show...especially given Abby's status as a controversial character.

"Something similar happened in season one when you encountered game one starts with you playing Sarah [Joel's daughter], and we didn't have to do a lot of heavy lifting for you to care about Sarah, because you're playing as her, you're experiencing the outbreak as her in the show," Druckmann continued. "Which we spent quite a bit of time to achieve something similar. So that was one reason. Another reason is, you know, where that revelation happens in the game."

The Last of Us Part II takes an even deeper, darker turn, which isn't hard to find or watch online. Should the show wait a bit longer to make that "revelation," it's possible viewers would find out before it actually happened in the show – which would definitely put a damper on things. We don't find out Abby's true motivation until a bit further on, so the speed-up in the show makes perfect sense. Kaitlyn Dever plays Abby, taking over from Laura Bailey who did the voice acting and motion capture in the game.

Continued Druckmann: "If we were to stick to a very similar timeline, viewers would have to wait a very, very long time to get that context. You'll probably get spoiled between seasons, and we didn't want that, so it felt appropriate for those reasons to move that up and give viewers that context right off the bat."
